Anyone negotiate with their hall?

Hi Everyone! I'm recently engaged and new to the boards. We have been looking at halls and have narrowed down the one we want. I've had several friends who have had their reception at the hall we want and have been able to talk them down quite a bit. I've talked with my friends but am also looking for some advice on how you negotiated with the hall to either lower the price per plate or maybe add in some extras. I don't really know how to negotiate and would appreciate any feedback!

How much negotiating are you wanting?  You'll have more luck with the extras, rather than the price drop.  This also is only likely to occur if you're in the winter or an off peak wedding season.
  • We were able to get the reception hall to reduce the price by 10%, but we were looking at February/March. We just asked if there were any discounts for getting married in those months, and they said yes. If you're getting married in a popular month, you might have a harder time than you would in other months.

  • I agree with PPs. Off-season is the best time to have things negotiated. It also depends how many events your venue does. If they do a lot, they may not be willing to negotiate much b/c they don't "need" your business, you know?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Thanks everyone. I looked at what they offer and there's quite a few things on there that I don't need so I am going to look at taking some of those things off and lower the price that way. We are planning on getting married in June, which I know is one of the most popular months, if not the most popular so I know I can't expect a huge discount. But I figured it didn't hurt to see what could be cut or lowered. I appreciate the feedback!
