Electronic STD and invitations

My FI and I are doing our wedding budget and are looking at areas where we can cut back.  We really want to focus as much of the budget on the reception as we can.  My FI suggested that we eliminate paper inviations and go with electronic STD and invitations.  At first I was completely against it and now I am really liking the idea.  I think it will give us the opportunity to be more creative with the invite and help us keep track of RSVPs.  We will probably print 10 invitations for grandparents and such that aren't tech-savvy.

Does anyone have any experience with the electronic invitations or have any websites that they recommend?

    I completely understand where you are coming from. Invites, paper, printing, and POSTAGE. My FI and I did both electronic and paper STD. We sent paper STD to older relatives and people out of town, and we emailed eletronic STD to friends and tech savvy people. The STD that we sent, we scanned it on to the computer and inserted it right into the email. When people opened the emailed when they clicked on the STD they were directed to our website. I toyed with the idea of eletronic invites but felt it more formal to do actual paper invites. With a guestlist of 230 people I'll share how we saved.

    I searched online for invite designs that I liked. Fortunately I have a friend who is great with adobe illustrator and offered to make the invite, reception, and rsvp postcard for free. I believe if you do a google search you can get a 30 day trial for adobe illustrator if it's something you'd want to try yourself. I purchased a 250 pack of white cardstock from Office Max for $16. A local print shop charged $125 to print everything (in color) and also to cut to the right size. I found envelopes online for under $20. Postage was the heavy hitter, it cost more to send the invites then to actually make/print them.

    I'd say if you can find it in your budget to do actual invites do it, but if you can't you won't be stoned for it. You know your guestlist best so do what's best for you.

    We did electronic save the dates and everyone LOVED them. They were so unique to us and really set the tone for our wedding. Go to etsy.com/shop/Quirkreation and you'll see why we loved them so much :)
