French Polynesia in December

Is it a waste of time and/or money to travel to FP over the Christmas/NYE holidays? Thinking about it, but I'm concerned mostly about the weather, which i do know can vary. I'm pretty tied to dates due to work schedule.

Who's been around then and what did you think?

Re: French Polynesia in December

  • I haven't been there then, but it can be hit or miss. December is a little bit more reliable than January or Feb, but I've heard from some people that their December trips were perfect except for 1 or 2 afternoons. Its also more expensive than early December and most resorts have compulsory meals on the holidays, which can run upwards of $200pp. Not sure if you would be concerned about that.

Yeah, wouldn't be too excited about the compulsory meals. I thought i had heard something about that before. My December break is from around the 22nd until January 5 or so, so that's all we'd have to work with. Going to start ttc this summer, so December might be the only opportunity for a trip, depending on whether or not we can get pregnant, etc.

  • We went the end of November, shoulder season, for 2 weeks.  We didn't have any rain.  It was very hot and humid though.  At times uncomfortably so.
