colour choice

May I ask for some opinions? My reception venue has the colour scheme of gold and purple/burgandy. I had been wanting an ivory/silver reception colour scheme. Would the room colours overwhelm my choice? Should I look into incorporating some gold touches to the decor? The venues carpet is purple so nothing I can do about that. The chairs are purple and gold but I was going to use chair covers.

This is the room where the reception is held. I apologise in advance that my phone will make one big paragraph...

  • No one will notice or care that your color scheme doesn't match the venue. Also, IMO, chair covers are a waste of money. Do you really remember what the chairs looked like at any of the weddings you've been to?

  • Thank you for your advice. You are right about not worrying about matching decor with venue. Will put the money for chair covers to something else the guests would appreciate more.

  • I agree with Allie. Don't try to match the venue decor and don't worry about the chairs. I think our chairs were brown, but I couldn't pick them out of a lineup. That's how unimportant they are.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

I actually disagree with the PPs on the chair cover thing.  If they're nice chairs, I notice.  If they're ugly, I also notice.
The chairs at my venue are an ugly brown, and will take away from our tables.  We're not doing anything fancy, and chair sashes are pretty unnecessary, in my opinion, but chair covers themselves can really come in handy.

That said, I don't think anyone will notice the colors of the actual venue.  Your decor and table linens are going to be the focus in the room.
