Electronic STDs

My FI is dead set on electronic Save the Dates. I think it's because of the costs of STDs and stamps. That, and his friend had a white tie wedding earlier this spring, and they did electronic STDs (which means we have to too, right?) I told him, repeatedly, that STDs are only about $1each, but he still refuses. Ah well. It's not exactly a hill worth dying on.

So, has anyone used electronic STDs? Is there a particular site you prefer?

Thanks!

Re: Electronic STDs

  • If it's just the financial part that is stressing him, just skip them all together. I wish I had sent out way fewer to just VIPs, because as our guest list continued to grow, I'm not committed to sending invitations to people that I may not be as concerned about coming after all. They are in no way required, and you can do a lot with word of mouth. Just clear the date with the people most important to you both (immediate family and closest friends, depending on how big you want your guest list to be) and invest that money elsewhere in your budget. No one will miss them, sadly!
  • It's a destination wedding, so a STD is necessary to get out our date as well as travel information.

Your friend had a white tie wedding with electronic save the dates?  Well, isn't that just tacky as hell.   But, anyway.   If your FI is set on this, just send an email with the relevant information and yoru wedding website info..  You don't have to do anything fancy.

Also, FWIW, I got 100 STDs from vistaprint for less than $30.00.  If you do a STD postcard, it's even cheaper and the postage is cheaper. You can also print them at home using cardstock. Even cheaper.
  • I did electronic Save the Dates and my friends and family LOVED them! Probably because of how fun and unique they were. We had Rachel from the Quirkreation etsy shop design them, and they were perfect!! She was even willing to work with us on pricing to help us stay within our budget. I highly recommend you check her out: etsy.com/shop/Quirkreation
  • Normally I'd say just skip the STDs altogether, but since you say it's a DW and you have lots of information to share, what about doing a simple postcard with your names and date that then refers guests to a wedding website where you have all the other information. You could get your FI to help make the website, and it might satisfy his desire to have something electronic while not being tacky.

All of your posts mention this Etsy vendor.  Highly suspicious you have a vested interest in this business.
