Centerpiece Giveaway

Is it expected that the centerpieces will be given away to one of the guests at the table?  They are usually given away via a game of some sort at all of the weddings I've been to.  Just wondering....

Re: Centerpiece Giveaway

  • I think this used to be a big tradition, but with many couples renting their vases,  I think this is becoming less common.

I feel like this is a regional/social circle thing. I have never been to a wedding where they give away the centerpieces. I don't know that anyone would have wanted to take them.

If you are hoping to unload them on guests, I would just have the DJ announce that guests are welcomed to take them.

  • I didn't want to announce a giveaway, although I've seen it done at weddings plenty of times.  We told some friends and family at the end of the night to take them if they were interested.  They were beautiful floral centerpieces and no one turned the offer down!  We also kept one at home and enjoyed it for almost 2 weeks.

At most of the weddings I've been to, we're told by the bride/her family (that we know will know what whether or not we should) to take them.  ETA: Unless we were specifically told, we didn't anticipate anyone bringing them home.

Actually, I went to a coastal wedding last summer and the centerpiece is on our livingroom table at home during last/will be this summer

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I have never expected to reice a center piece. At the end of the reception i have heard an announcer saying please take flowers or a  centerpiece. It just depends on what the center pieced are.
  • When I was a floral designer (10+ years ago) I tried to always put some kind of a cheap liner inside the pretty (rented) centerpiece container so that the guests could take them home. Or, if it's a clear vase where a liner won't work you can have your florist tie a clear band around the stems so the flowers will come out like a hand-tie bouquet. Just have the staff or a helper provide a hand towel to blot the stems dry.
  • Thanks, Ladies.
