Venue help in Hampton Roads...I thought the small details would be hard...

Hello fellow Knoties! SO here's the breakdown...I'm having a 2014 Rustic Fall wedding. Hoping for either forest or water views (NO BEACH!) I can't seem to find anything that isn't in SW Virginia (Blue Ridge Mnts.) and that is way too far! I would prefer a single venue for everything as most of my guests are from out of state and I don't want them having to commute from one place to another. DIY and budget friendly are a must! THANKS!!!

  • When in the fall? Early fall you could look at some of the plantations in the area

Early October...we've looked at some state parks but a lot of the historic sites won't let you have alcohol...or candles...or decorations. Seems like theres a ton of restrictions for my inner DIY Bride. :) Any specific plantations that you know of? I'm coming to terms witht the fact that I may just have to let go of some things I was hoping to have.

  • If you don't mind traveling to Charles City County, Berkeley Plantation allows alcohol.  We had our wedding there Oct. 10, 2010 and it was beautiful.  They allowed us to use real flower petals down the aisle but there are several things they don't allow since it's open to the public and a potential hazzard to guests/wildlife.  I know rice is out as it can harm birds, etc.

Have you tried the Museum of Contempory Arts, it's in VA Beach but not ocean...  They have a beautiful room with real tree's growing around the dancefloor & a seperate room for your ceremony.  You can have alcohol as well & decor...
  • As far as plantations go, try Powhatan Plantation or Greensprings Plantation. They both are in Williamsburg not far from restaurants for guest and the outlet mall. They are both ran by the same company, but Greensprings is a family favorite for us. The rooms are big and spacious. You probably could rent out 2 units for your guest to stay in and have the wedding outside by the lake. Good Luck.
