Destination Wedding; Reception back home gift?

What is the etiquette on giving gifts to people who got married away, which we went to and are now having a reception back home?

Not sure if this is necessary but we spent nearly $5000.00 to go to the wedding, so we are thinking that is enough!?!?!

Re: Destination Wedding; Reception back home gift?

  • You shouldn't feel obligated to give a gift. Most of the time when people have a destination wedding they don't expect a big gift if any at all because they understand people spent a lot of money to be there. I know I was really shocked when I got gifts from people who attended the wedding away.

The point of a reception at home is usually not to get gifts. They usually use it as  away to include those who couldn't be at the wedding ceremony. That being said, don't send a gift if you feel it's unnecessary. The couple is probably grateful enough that you attended. If you do get something, you can stick to something small that fits your budget.

  • That's kind of how I felt, but I was curious if I was going to seem cheap or taken the wrong way. Thank you!
  • Yep! I am a destination bride and I am not expecting any gifts.  My Sister and Brother actually can't make it and are hosting a reception for those that also can't 2 weeks before we leave.  I am sure we may get gifts then, but I will never register or anything like that!
