  Congratulations! The weather is usually still warm the first half of October (think hi 70's to mid 80's) and October is one of the driest months of the year.  Halloween shouldn't "take over" until the 2nd half of the month

  Our wedding was 10/23/11 and the weather was absolutely perfect. We had no issues with Halloween, but our venue was not right in the middle of the Quarter. We did get to drive through the garden district and over by Audobon Park and look at all the houses that were decorated which is always pretty cool.
  
  We stayed away from the weekend of Voodoofest on purpose but wound up dealing with Parent's Week and a home Saints game. There pretty much is no such thing as a weekend where nothing is going on at that time, but you can try to avoid major events that are already planned.

  We got married October 20th last year and the weather was perfect. The bars had some Halloween decorations but it was barely noticeable

  October is fabulous in NOLA! The only main festival is Voodoo which is at the end of the month. Halloween in the quarter is a nightmare so I would steer clear from that area!
