How do your pets amuse you?

Someday, I will post a video of this funny thing my dog does with his toy bone. But today, I realized something about my other dog.

I have an open concept house so you can see my kitchen from my living room. I always thought she came in the kitchen when she thought I actually had food. Today, I realized that she comes in if I pass a rack with my pots and pans on it. I've tested this multiple times today....same results each time. Apparently, that must be associated with food. Maybe it's because if I get a pan, it means I'm cooking and she will get scraps...I don't know, but it's sure funny to see her immediately POP off the couch each time I test it whether she appears to be sleeping or not.

  • I have a hamster, so the only time he amuses me is when he takes a treat and stuffs it in his cheek and stares at me for another.

  • Our husky/wolf hybrid HATES when we dance. He will "warble" at us, jump up and take FIs hand in his mouth and pull him away! Even if we're just sitting in bed and dancing from the waist up! It's like living in Footloose around here. Lol

My mini schnauzer prefers sits like a person so her fat belly sticks out:

It's easiest for her when we prop her up and she'll balance against my chest. But in the car, she sits on the center console and tries to position herself like that and, without fail, tumbles into the back seat.
  • Oh my gosh @zoberg. That is probably one of the most adorable things I have ever seen!!

  • My chickens are endlessly goofy and entertaining. Darla likes to gossip at me while perched on my knee, all of the girls will form a platoon against squirrels, and when they dustbathe, they mutter to themselves prissily.

  • Oooh what do chickens gossip about? So and so had waay too much grain last night and wound up in the wrong nest?

I love the platoon against the squirrels! My dog would so join that.

I imagine about the other hens. She's the only one who does it, and its not for treats. She'll hop onto my knee, bawk at me for like 3 minutes, then fluff up importantly and hop down. I always feel very informed afterwards

How doth my pet amuse me? Let me count the ways..

Recently he's been sleeping in the closet, or just sitting there and staring at me. Both creepy and amusing.

Oh my gosh that is hilarious!! I'm totally picturing this! Do you just nod sympathetically back? I wonder if the hens she is gossiping about gossip about her behind her back! Oh the dynamics of chickens.

Seriously still LOLing at the image of this in my brain

  • My fat guinea pig amuses me with everything she does. I guess if I had to pick one it'd be the way she differentiates between food. We put her hay/alfalfa on her "throne" (her pillow) and put her pellet food in her bowl. When we pick up the bag, before she even sees it, she knows the sound it makes and either runs to her throne or her bowl depending on what bag we pick up.
  • @ally91 my dog has started sleeping in the closet recently! And generally spending a lot of his time there when we're in the bedroom. I think he makes it a den. He definitely enjoys it more when the closet doors are mostly shut. I'm glad I'm not alone in this weird thing.

Chickens are awesome - I miss owning them.

My rabbit amuses me by making my mother's life horrible.  It's mean, but he doesn't like her because she doesn't pet him enough, so he completely ignores her and makes her chase him around the yard when she wants him to go back to his enclosure.  But the second I'm home he listens to me and goes back to his pen when I need him to.  My poor poor mother . . .

He also has this really intense stare.  If you walk towards him he turns, stares straight at you for about 10 seconds, and then runs as fast as he can towards you in a really determined way.  It scares the crap out of my young nephews.

  • Our dog waits for FI to get out of the shower and proceeds to lick his legs and feet.  We call her a creeper because sometimes she's just standing outside the shower door staring at him.

She also lays down during our walks if she sees a dog or person she wants to say hi to and won't move until they approach her.  It's actually annoying because it's not easy trying to get a 55-pound animal to move, but people are always like "awww how adorable! did you train her to do that?"

Yes, I trained my dog to lay down on the sidewalk every other block because I want to go on three hour walks.

  • My cats entertain me by randomly attacking eachother around corners. I feel like 24/7 they are playing some sort of stealthy spy game with one another.

My aussie shepherd/ red heeler entertains me by hearding my cats away from spaces in the living room that they should not be. She is useful like that :D

  • @zoberg My chug, Elizabeth, does the same thing as your dog! She loves her belly being rubbed so she sits like a person, and tries to grab your hand with her paw and then sticks out her chest as to say "Look at how cute I am... rub my belly please!" She also does the best sad dog eyes. My other chug, Lincoln, is awesome. He tilts his head like he is listening hard to what you are saying and he is trying to understand it all.

My hamster knows the sound the bag his treats are in makes. If I pick up any other bag he won't come out of his house. It's the weirdest thing!

I'm SO glad I'm not alone either! Is he older? Mine had never done it but started a few months ago, he just turned 8. And my clothes are currently on the very highest shelf to avoid the hairyness! :)

  • Winston (my hedgie) usually lowers his brow over his eyes when I'm holding him and start talking to him.  It's usually right after he's woken up.  It's his grumpy face.  Then he figures out that I'm not going to eat him and he ignores me.  I tend to make the same face at DH when he pisses me off now.

  • well i got a parrot which speaks all the time :P
