After the ceremony

We're still trying to decide if we want to either have the wedding reception in a suite or if we want to go to a restaurant.  I think that part of the reason it's so difficult is because what the evening would involve after a restaurant is a bit of a grey area!

For those of you who are doing a meal in a restaurant, what do you have planned for the rest of the evening?  Are you staying at the restaurant, moving onto somewhere else (if so, where?) or playing it by ear?  If you've already had your wedding and did a restaurant for the reception, what did you do after and do you wish you'd done anything differently?

As always, thanks for all the replies everyone :D

Re: After the ceremony

  • We are doing a late lunch at Hussong's, then having the DDB pick us up from there. Take us on a tour and then drop us off at the hotel. We are going to then hang out at a bar/club for those that want to continue the party, and those that want to go back to their room and relax can do that.
  • We are doing the double decker bus tour. It's picking us up at the dinner restaurant shortly after our restaurant time is over.

We are having our dinner reception at Hussong's then after heading up to THEmix lounge for dancing and drinks. We are keeping everything at Mandalay where we are also getting married.
  • We got married and had our reception in a restaurant and we had it from 4pm to midnight.  Of the guests who stayed out, about half wanted to gamble and the other half wanted to night club, so we went to the club first for a little bit then hit the craps tables where all the rest still were.

  • We're having our dinner reception at Il Fornaio (in the NY NY) and afterwards I have no clue. We are not club people, so we want something more low-key. Plus, I want to be able to stay in my wedding dress all night! I am thinking probably a lounge, or dueling piano bar.

  • Our reception is at Margaritaville. It will be over at 8:30. We plan to just play it by ear and go do whatever we feel like! We're thinking we'll hit the craps table for awhile, go to a few bars...just whatever strikes us. Guests are welcome to meet up with us, but I'm sure people will want to go off and do their own thing too.

All these weddings sound great, I want to do all of these ideas!

The DDb after is a good idea, we had considered doing that as a meet and greet but it's certainly worth thinking about for after the ceremony.

I'm going to go off now and google all the places everyone has mentioned.  Whatever we do, we'll have to be in a place with music becuase my friends and I all love dancing, but I really like the idea of having a wee bit of casino time as well, I think that would be great fun :)

fablove (and anyone else who is getting married at Mandalay, or vegasgroom), where are you staying?  I really like the look of Mandalay Bay but I think I would rather be more central.
  • We only had 17 people in total so we brought everyone to Cirque Du Soleil  Mystere after dinner. It was great fun, then of course some of us stayed up gambling!!

  • We aren't really going the formal route after the ceremony everyone is getting on a bus for a strip tour to take photos. The wedding ends at 530 at 6 the bus will pick us up and we will be done at 9 then after we will be going to Surrender or XS :)

We are actually staying at Golden Nugget for the entire week we will be there. The chapel has a limo picking us up to bring us to Mandalay for the wedding. Our wedding dinner and after dinner dancing will all take place at Mandalay so no one is having to go place to place. At the end of the night, all of the hotels have the limos or towncars that we can get to take us back to Golden Nugget :)
  • We're having an in-suite reception until around 8:00. Then people are splitting up to gamble, hit the bars, whatever. FI and I are going bowling with a bunch of people so we can get shots of us bowling in our wedding clothes, and then we'll probably meet up with everyone at the bars/casinos if they're still out and about (which is likely).
  • We're having dinner at Canaletto in the Venetian from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and then we're having everyone back to our suite (which we only have for the wedding night - we're in a standard room for the rest of our stay) for drinks and to socialize. For those who are interested we'll likely go to a club from there, once some of the older and younger guests call it a night :)
  • I am getting married at Mandalay Bay - Valley of the Falls in October! We have a 3pm ceremony and then immediately following we are going on a 2hr DD Bus photo tour with all of our guests! Everyone is really looking forward to it! Should be back at Mandalay Bay around 6 or so....get in some more shots with Todd as everyone heads up to our Vista Suite for the cocktail reception. We chose Mandalay Bay as we are bringing our two small children and wanted to be a little less in the central craziness of things, but close enough to check it out. I also loved the look of everything at Mandalay Bay as far a ceremony sites etc.

We were talking about it yesterday and because of some of the ideas here we started considering the DDB either after the ceremony or after the meal.  We were thinking we'd have the ceremony after 6pm but maybe it would be worthwhile planning it for earlier so we could do the DDB before dinner.

I think i need to make a spreadsheet and start comparing places, I feel like I'm making a huge jigsaw and once I find one of the corner pieces then the rest will start clicking into place but right now I'm just looking all over the place and not really seeing anything or taking it in!   Does that make sense or have I finally gone mad?!
  • It makes complete sense! Think it all through first. You do not wanna end up like me, I booked my ceremony and right after we booked our bus with photographer right after the wedding for the strip tour and 1 hour after we plan on all going out but stupid me left out any time to feed our guests so now I'm having to figure out how and where I can fit that in. I should of thought things more through. Take your time with your planning and I'm sure you'll be good!

I think I might need to invest in some post it notes and highlighter pens.  And a folder.  And a couple of bottles a boat full of wine.
  • Lol I'm with you on that one for sure haha

I would do that. I bought a small hardback notebook that will fit in my purse and it has everything in there. Wow, I just thought about how horrible it would be if I lost it. Lol.

I've got an excel spreadsheet with many tabs... rough guest list, final guest list, addresses, budget, and then just one where I write down random things as I remember them. Started out as a packing list and then... who knows what it is now. Here's what is says so far, it's kind of random and I don't even remember why I wrote half of it!

    cups
    openers
    koozies
    drink stirrers
    napkins
    something to sign

    cake/cupcake tower

pick up location for DD bus
    where to take beer
ice.. How much can they hold

    scavenger hunt
    balloons

  • If you have a smartphone, my recommendation would be to use Google Docs to store the data, especially if more than one person will be looking/working on the data.  My wife and I had a spreadsheet with all the vendors we were looking at, as we both did our own research, we could both update it, from computer or phone, anywhere, any time, even at the same time since it shows you if the field you're editing is being edited by someone else.

@vegasgroom I have a spreadsheet made, but so far it is just headings :D We've spent the last couple of days reading *so* much and suddenly, I think we might have started getting a couple of the corner pieces of our jigsaw! When we chose Vegas, I said I would love to have a steak for my wedding dinner, and we both said that we would love to get married outside (that's probably because we're Scottish and so outside weddings here are all but impossible!). We've honed in on Juno's Gardens at Ceasers because it looks really beautiful and then Joe's in the forum shops. Ran both of them past the parents and they love them as much as we do, so really excited! Only thing is...we're planning the wedding for April 2015, so we don't want to rush into anything! I wish it was tomorrow though haha. Also loving the Wynn as our hotel although who knows if we'll actually stay there. I just love the way they've decided to embrace the gay market, plus the rooms look incredible. I love the photo of the upside down parasols in some lobby or something! PS I just told my gf about my jigsaw piece analogy and she rolled her eyes and said I'm embarrassing lol
  • Hi I just wanted to say that that I'm Scottish and have booked Juno gardens for that reason too! I think your choices sound great, I stayed at the encore in 2011 and loved it.

@spoon1984 great minds! I've never been before and we debated going next year to check things out, but decided to save it so the first time we're there, we're getting married.

What time are you having your ceremony? If we book it, I'm tempted to go for the 7pm one so as we have longer there and the pool is empty but I don't know if that's a bit late then to be going on for dinner?

Are you having Loch Lomond at the end? We decided last night we are going for it. Everyone nearby (including the staff) might think we've all gone slightly mad, but it's just such a fun tradition. We listened to to the Runrig version last night and because the only time we ever hear it is at the end of the wedding, it just immediately made me all happy and excited!

    When is your wedding?
  • I've not got too long to go 3rd July! We went for 3pm and we've got dinner booked from 5-8. I see where your coming from with 7pm. I've booked the Bella Luna package so I do only have 30 minutes in the garden but there's so many good views around Caesars I thought 30 mins would be ok.

We've not decided on music yet but thats sounds like a great idea!

I did consider having a later ceremony but I wasn't sure what everyone would do all day if the ceremony was at 7, I thought I'd just be waiting about  for it to happen! but really it is Vegas there's plenty to do to occupy your day! If you were thinking of doing a photo tour you could always do that first then have dinner at 8 after the ceremony.

Wow yours is really soon! How many people are going over with you? Are the majority flying out on the same flight?

I think 30 minutes should be fine for the gardens and you're right about the surrounding area looking lovely as well. We're just a bit nervous at the thought of standing around posing for our wedding photos in a public area with people walking by when we're two brides. I don't think we'd have the confidence to go walking about Vegas for the rest of the night either if we've both got a wedding dress on and are clearly a couple, that's daft of us but we just don't really like being centre of attention!

Are you both staying together the night of, or waiting til the ceremony to see each other? I think we'll go our seperate ways the night before but that would make a later ceremony feel like it was years away when we were waiting to see each other! I can imagine that day dragging in! That's a good reason for having the ceremony earlier.
  • There's just 12 coming with us, we're all on different flights! We're actually the last to arrive, we've got a few going on the Friday a few on the Sat and we're the Sun, fiances a teacher (in Troon!), he only finishes work for the holidays on the Friday. I get you regarding pics etc, my dress is knee length so hoping I can sneak about unnoticed! I think we will stay together the night before just seems a bit easier but maybe not very romantic!

I've got the same thing going on, it's very helpful! Mine started out as a budgeting thing but just grew and grew. I keep it on Dropbox so my FI can see updates and add to it, but mostly its just me, I'm not sure if it even makes sense to anyone else looking at it!

Oh and SDG, to respond to your original post, I'm having my reception in a buffet and afterwards we're taking our guests back to our suite (a very affordable but spacious Tower Suite at The Mirage) for drinks, music and dancing. We have a couple of guests under 21, aged 20 and 19, who are used to being able to drink and go to clubs over here in the UK so we didn't want to end up going to a bar/casino with everybody but them! Whilst everyone is in the suite entertaining themselves we will nip out for some photos 'by night' on the strip as it will still be daylight when we have our strip tour in the DDB (which is between our ceremony and the reception).

  • (Oh and our 'reception' is in the buffet in The Wynn as they have a semi-private room which holds 36 people, in case that was something you might consider)
