Does this count as a blackhearted post?

It amazes me at the large number of people with 2+ kids who don't have a life insurance policy. BUT they have every bell and whistle on their cell phone. You can get a $100,000 policy for $25/month. If you cut off the internet on your phone, you got it.

I lose count of the number of collections we do for families trying to bury their loved one because they don't have any money to do so. I understand if you truly don't have any money, but most of the kids are walking around with iphones. Give them a flip phone and buy you some life insurance.

    Not blackhearted.
  • You should change the title to common sense post. It is so ridiculous that people cry broke while their entire family has their faces buried in their smart phones.

    makes sense to me.
My parents didn't have ins. on EITHER of my parents while we were growing up.
    They're damn lucky.
  • Not blackhearted at all.  We pay $66 a month for life insurance on the both of us.

You know what, for Nola this is probably as black as her heart gets.  The parents are probably also not in jobs that offer anything either.

We're under $600/yr for both of us.

Not blackhearted. weren't we *just* talking about this here? i would take a small policy out on my mom if i knew she didn't have one for herself just for funeral costs. it's grossly irresponsible to not even think about it.

my grandparents didn't have life insurance, but they were smart with money and had private accounts to handle their funeral costs as well as to leave something behind for their kids (which i think was silly, but whatever). times are much different now.

  • Zilla, I think we were just talking about this. It's on my mind because we just had another collection.

  • My mother has a life insurance policy for her myself and my son (only 10k which is enough for any funeral costs) She told me that she would take care of our life insurance until I got married and then my husband and I can take over. I believe totally it's about $65 a month and I've offered to pay but she doesn't mind since she feels she is doing it for her grandson. I think I take for granted what my mom has done for me over the years but when I'm married and I take over mine and my son's, I will be paying for hers as well. :)

Term insurance is geared toward younger people/families that are still carrying mortgages and young children.   Whole life isn't bad, but it would never be able to replace an income.
