Who gets a place card? Does everyone get their own, or do couples get a shared one?  For example, John Smith table 1 on one, Judy Smith table 1 on one, or Mr. And Mrs. John Smith table 1? What about families? There might be more than one Smith Family. I know I am overthinking this, but I need to get them ordered and I am not sure how many to order.

    From what i've seen, couples get a shared one. Otherwise, everyone gets their own.

    If your venue requires place cards for diferent meal  selections, each person will need one.

    If it's an escort card - that you put out in the cocktail area to tell people at which table they're seated, you only need one per couple.

    This. 100% of the weddings I've been to with a meal choice utilize the placecards to assist the waitstaff.

    If you're doing a buffet or no meal choice, you can do whichever you'd like.
