Underwear? Where?

This was on a board that allows you to talk about anything and I wanted to share it and see what your opinion was:

Do moms and big sisters no longer "teach" girls how to wear dresses? When I was little - 3 or 4 years old, my big sisters made a big deal about not showing your panties. Is that no longer a no-no? And if you were wearing a dress, you certainly put on proper underwear!

Hubby was doing a wedding yesterday and we went Friday night for a rehearsal. Bride was running around in a strapless sun dress with a short, flared skirt. Their deck was several steps down from the house and since it was a lake side house there was an updraft coming from the lake. Every time Bride went up and down stairs her skirt flew up and we all got a flash of her (ironic) "Hello Kitty" thong.

So last night - wedding - long white dress. A few steps into the processional it was clear the wedding gown had a slit up the left front. Recessional she was stepping on her dress so she grabbed the skirt on the right and lifted up and to the right.

Before the wedding Grooms daughter was lighting luminaries along the path wearing a denim mini squatting with her legs spread.

Do they not teach the young ladies now?

I agree with you totally. It might not be my business, but I kind of feel like if I'm subject to looking at it, then it becomes my business. My pet peeve is the bras - regular bra with halter top... not a good look. Maybe it's because I'm a teacher, so I need to be extra careful of what I'm showing/not showing - and the undergarments I'm usually subject to is on students...

I feel a little bad for that bride though - surely someone close to her could have made sure that the dress fit her properly (ie - not too long). I'd be mortified if I saw a picture of myself looking that way.

I feel bad for whoever has their undies accidentally shown to the world. It can feel mighty embarrassing.

Unless they're legit mooning me and I don't know them, I try not to judge (if I do know them, I'd know why they're mooning me too). Normally I feel a little bit of pity for those girls that don't realize that their skirt isn't long enough to fully cover their bits.

When in doubt, I wear full coverage.

Seriously?! Am I the only one who finds this inappropriate?? I'm not talking about wearing a tank top and the straps slip out a little... I'm talking sleeves that don't match with the placement of bra straps at all! Like halters or tube tops. Tell me, honestly, that you wouldn't think it was weird if a bride walked down the aisle in a strapless gown and a regular bra. Why should everyday life be different? Undergarments are just that.

I agree with OP, it's fine if you want to wear sexy clothing ex:short dresses, halters, etc. But I was at least taught how to sit in them so I'm not exposing my "Hello Kitty".

BTW I think the irony is that the other word for kitty that starts with a P is also used to described the lady part. And thong underwear doesn't cover a lot of ground. Get my drift?

Mismatched bra to shirt straps are a pet peeve of mine but they are in no way offensive! I feel the same way about tan lines though. I would never wear a halter top if I had regular strap tan lines. This is just me being weird and quirky. The only exception is working out in my crazy head.

Exactly what underwear do you suggest she should have worn under the dress instead that would have made it less offensive to view accidentally? It doesn't sound like she was purposely putting her underwear on display, but it was a byproduct of a shorter dress and an unanticipated breeze. So really, I don't understand how the fact that they were Hello Kitty underwear is offensive.
