Just Engaged and Proposals

Just got engaged! (plus a quick question) :)

Hi everyone,

My name is Jen, and my darling fiance` (I'm still getting giddy every time I get to use the word) proposed this past Saturday on our 7th anniversary. I was completely blindsided (apparently I'm a lot more oblivious than i thought), but absolutely thrilled.

He took me to a really traditional, romantic place (One if By Land, Two if By Sea if you live in NYC) for dinner with a table set for us in the back. I noticed that he kept on getting up to "go to the bathroom" and was looking quite nervous, but I didn't put two and two together until the server came over between the two desert courses with a tray with the ring box on a bed of white rose petals. Unfortunately the servers timing was kinda off so my fiance` kinda got surprised and mumbled/rushed the actual proposing part, but I was saying yes like halfway through the first sentence. I cried through the rest of the desserts :) After dinner he had a car ready to take us to a nearby champagne bar where our best friends and my mom and sister were waiting for us. I'm still getting all teary thinking about that night -- truly the best night of my life (so far!).

The ring is absolutely perfect -- he picked out the diamond and the setting himself, but it's pretty much exactly what I would've picked for myself. Sorry if the picture is gigantic - is there a way to resize photos on here?

We're thinking of an early 2015 wedding, so we have time to save (trying to do a wedding in NYC on a working class budget yay) and we don't have to start planning for a few months at least. So now it's just "yay I'm so excited!" time.

A quick question -- my best friend helped out a lot with the proposal (got my ring size while shopping, took care of everything at the champagne bar, made a very sweet center piece for the table there, actually kept the secret for over two weeks from everyone), and I wanted to write her a proper thank you note -- the more i think about it though, maybe he should be the one who writes it? Should it come from me, him, or both of us?

Re: Just got engaged! (plus a quick question) :)

  • Congrats; sounds like a beautiful proposal.

I think it's fine if the note comes from you since it's your sentiment.  Your FI may have already thanked her for all her help.
  • Congratulations! I'd write one from you, like @CrazyCatLady3 said. He probably thanked her for her help already.
  • If it's you who wants to thank her the note should come from you.

    Congrats and happy planning!

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Very thoughtful. I think it would be nice to come form both you. It must have been hard to keep all the secrets!
