Hi everyone,

Please share some reception ideas for a May/June 2014 wedding.

Here is what I am looking for:

MUST be unique - NO stuffy banquet halls
Prefer a place where I can hold the ceremony and reception together, since many people will be in from out of town
Prefer a place with nearby hotel due to many out of town guests
Would ideally like to be able to have the ceremony outside and the reception inside (or under tent)
Doesn't have to be the cheapest place, but prefer someplace not overly expensive either

We are getting married next month at Stonebridge Farm Nursery in Ambridge. It's <10 miles from the hotels at the airport, you can do your ceremony and reception there, and it's all outside (so the reception is tented). It's not super cheap, but I also didn't think it was horribly expensive either. I'll be back in a few weeks with reviews, but so far we haven't run into any issues working with the venue or the caterer they use.

i would start looking as soon as you can. So many places are already booked for next year. My coworker said she couldnt even get fall dates for 2014 already - all the good budget places were already taken. Can you do a Friday or Sunday? Or do a different month? It just might be real stressful.

Have you checked Succop Conservancy? They are very reasonable and they can do both ceremony and reception on site. They also have a pavilion for the reception area so that it will be covered. I'm having my wedding there and September and am having a Sunday wedding. The majority of our guests are coming from out of town/ out of the country. We thought a Sunday wedding was nice just because we could have rehearsal on Saturday so then the guests really wouldn't have to get here until late Friday/early Saturday morning and then leave Monday if they needed to get back to work. Another place that I loved was The Matress Factory. It was really unique and I think has the option for a ceremony outside and the reception in the museum. Good luck venue shopping!

Springwood in Verona is outdoor ceremony and indoor reception space. I looked a year ago, but they have 2 price levels, and I remember the cheaper one was like $116pp and the more expensive was like $132 and the difference was having more flowers, and sit down instead of buffet dinner.

Succop is really nice, as someone mentioned. I would just add that it's not located near anything so hotels are a bit of a drive for the out of towners.. but it does conveniently accommodate ceremony/reception onsite so at least that will cut down on their travels!

I am getting married at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott next August. I am having my ceremony outdoors in their garden area ( weather permitting!) and my reception in the ballroom. Its about 70pp. I havent really worked closely with the coordinator because I booked them last September, but I am excited to get married there!

I would call. I'm using the junior ballroom but they do have a grand ballroom which is gorgeous and will more than likely hold your guests comfortably!

Just speaking from my experience (my wedding is this fall) in looking at venues esp rustic barn types and also vendors (hair/photog/DJ) but I'd say booking things for fall (Sept/Oct) is equally as busy as summer. I did notice a few places that offered lower prices starting in like Nov. though if that's an option. I didn't want to be that late in fall but just thought I'd throw it out there.

We are planning to start looking ASAP. Has anyone ever been to Lingrow Farm or New Hazlett Theater? I realize these are on opposite ends of the spectrum but they are places I am considering looking at. I just sent for more information at the Pgh Opera House and at Stonebridge as well. If worst comes to worst, I can move it back to a fall wedding. I think a Friday or Sunday would be really hard to work out since we will have a lot of out of town guests coming in. I just feel it's a lot to ask of them to take additional days off of work to be here. Also, I don't want anyone to "miss out" because they couldn't take off of work.

I love the Matress Factory as well, but it won't hold enough people. I spoke with my fiances family and they agree that Sunday or Friday would not be good. Thanks for your input!

cma212 do you know how many people the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott ballroom can hold? We will have 200+ people.

@offbeat9 what rustic barn type of venues have you been looking into, if you don't mind me asking. That is what I have been looking into as well.

We're getting married at the Mayernik Center in Avonworth Park (off of 65) They are really reasonable for the rental. They do have an outdoor space where you can do a ceremony and they also have a pavilion you can rent (a good idea in case of inclement weather).

They book up extremely quickly though. Also, I think they max out right around 200 people.
