    My MIL would completely agree with all of that. And having a 3 year old son, I've learned that this is the exact opposite of how I want to be when the kiddo grows up.

    My ex MIL didn't care about her kids. She was 90% absent from their lives. I always thought I wanted exactly the opposite.....and now that I have that, I wish for my ex MIL.

    My BF's grandmother is like this, especially since she feels she raised all of the grandkids. She pulled BF's cousin's then fiancee aside when they first got engaged and told her that she better not think that she will be the #1 lady in his life because that spot belonged to her. Needless to say, she was quite unhappy when cousin and his wife stopped coming around and told her that she needed to respect their boundaries and stop calling and demanding he visit every weekend.

    I'm sure the author is presenting it as a joke, but a person wouldnt write that unless all those points had occurred to her. It's not like she said her son needs to paint the ceiling with unicorn spit after cartweeling across the Atlantic ocean.
