My hair is red!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!

Wedding is next weekend.  I did a trial run with the cosmetologist that came highly recommended by the inlaws.  She was supposed to dye my hair dark brown (think zooey deschanel).  My hair is strawberry shortcake red!!!!!!....actually it's more plum.  Super dark brown and super dark red.  *sigh* I also hated the hair style.  Luckily, my sister's stylist is gonna squeeze me in and fix my hair (at a pretty penny I'm sure) and I'm scrambling trying to find a person to do my hair for the wedding and hoping they are awesome because I doubt I have time for a trial run.  Oh man....I shouldn't have waiting this long for a trial run and I should have used someone I had actually seen the work of.  Lesson learned.  Hopefully other brides will learn as well.  Is it too early to drink at 10 am PST?

Re: My hair is red!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!

  • Because I'm an idiot!  Actually it wasn't a drastic change, it was supposed to just be darkened slightly, I have natural brown hair, I just wanted it richer kwim?  Either way, idiotic move, but I figured, hey I can dye my own hair that color out of a box with no issues, she shouldn't have any either.

  • Yeah, that was not the wisest course of action. I hope it gets fixed!

  • Looks like the red, wanted the brown.  Don't know how it happened....but I'm rocking the red until tomorrow at noon.

  • @shannon1401 I used to be a hairstylist, and if your hair color matches what's in the picture above, more than likely the person who is going to do it is just going to use a dark brown color with a cool undertone, don't freak out too bad.

FWIW my friend colored her hair jet black a week before her wedding. It actually looked pretty good though! She was nervous, but just dealt with it.

I am going to be supremely unhelpful for your original post. I'm just here to award you your temporary 'Redhead Club' badge.

    Go with glory, sister.

  • I love that shade of red. I may have to flag you for hating on redheads.

  • Oh man - that's what color I want!!

I actually put red highlights in my hair yesterday.  I love them.  I want more.  MORE RED.  Gimme your hair.
  • I'm a red head (un-naturally) I LOVE it!

  • I love red hair too!  But for the wedding I wanted to to be a natural looking red.  Like....red undertones.  This is a very abrasive red and doesn't look as good as the picture.  My roots are especially red.  If I had to wear the color everyday, awesome.  I'd totally rock it.  However, I wanted something that looked like a natural darker brown for the wedding.  I suppose worse case scenario, I could rock it.  It's not the end of the world.

  • Actually looking at it now, it's darker brown and the red is more purplish if that makes sense.  It's not as nice as that red.

  • the "strawberry shortcake" comment made me giggle.
I'm sorry! I'm glad you have some time to work on it. Good luck!

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

  • In the meantime, while you wait for your appointment, you could wash it a bunch of times with clarifying shampoo. That's what I do when I try a new color and it's not what I was looking for. Baking soda is supposed to help, too.

  • Red does fade fast.  Go hang out in the shower :-)
  • I just rewashed it with clarfying shampoo per hairdressers orders.  If it helped, it's not enough for me to notice.  The awesome part is, we are going to my future brother in laws graduation tonight.  Strawberry Shortcake is gonna be out on the prowl tonight!

  • I'm a natural redhead, too, but darken my hair slightly. A stylist once deepened it to that eggplant color that I think you're describing and I HATED it. Although if you have cool undertones, it probably looks great on you.  Also, in college I dyed my hair a deep purple-ish red so I could use a friend's ID in Vegas. Oh, college. My experienced stylist afterward was able to take my hair back to it's natural strawberry blonde color. It took 6 hours and about $400, but it can be done! Good luck and rock that red hair in the meantime!
