tipping etiquette

I have a "day of" coordinator.  She is basically the person that is the catering and event manager at the venue that has been with us through our first tour, tasting of the menu, breakdown of the times and activities planning and will be with us at the rehearsal and the day of the wedding to coordinate. She is not the wedding planner.  I had a few problems early on with getting phone calls returned and some silly mistakes that stressed me out, but now that the wedding is 2 weeks out, I am getting lots of attention!!! How much should I tip her?  Should I tip her assistant? (the one who answers my calls, checks with the "day of" coordinator and calls me back with the correct information)

    I'm tipping both my venue coordinator and hired DOC each a gift card to a nice restaurant in our area. I would also tip the assistant (probably yet another gift card), since you have a lot of contact with her and the level of service you are getting now is good.

    We didn't tip our DOC, as she is the owner of her business. Her service also sucked, but nevermind that.

    If you are happy with the service you receive from your DOC and assistant once the wedding is over, send each a nice thank you note with a tip or gift card.

    I think that good service (regardless of whether or not they own their own business) warrants a tip. It doesn't need to be 15-20%... It doesn't even need to be 10%, but doing SOMETHING 'above and beyond' goes a long way. 

    Perhaps $100 cash... or even just a Gift Certificate to a nice'ish local restaurant.

    As for her Assistant, if you have dealt with her a lot and have found her service to be timely, pleasant and generally lovely... I think that a bottle of wine and a nice Thank You card would be completely warranted. 

    IMO. Tipping is never NECESSARY... As such, it shouldn't ever be totally "unnecessary" either. If you got good service and want to say, "Thanks for being awesome"-- leave a tip. If you don't want to-- don't. Simple as that.
