June 2013 Weddings

Honeymoon planning?

Wow, I thought I was on the ball but some of you lovely ladies are waaaay ahead of me!!! Anyway, with the wedding now just over 8 months out, when should we start thinking of a honeymoon? Is that something we should start booking now? We want all inclusive, but we are definitely on a budget. I love St. Lucia, but I'm thinking Mexico is more affordable! Thanks for all your input!

Re: Honeymoon planning?

  • We are thinking Maui... Haven't booked anything yet, but it's something we've been talking about lately. Will probably start looking at flights and accommodations by the holidays. The earlier you book the better, usually. It does depend where you want to go though.

I've been to Mexico several times. I recommend Cancun on Yucatan coast, it's the most beautiful part of Mexico that I've seen. The resorts are fabulous.

  • I don't know if I would book it but I would definitely start researching not just for pricing but for weather.  I know June and July it can rain a lot in the carribean.  I have been to Mexico and the Dominican, and both times stayed at an Iberostar which I highly recommend.  Just this past April we paid under $2000 for 6 nights in the Dominican AI, including airfare from Boston.  And we booked it about a month out.

Due to FI's work we will probably take a delayed honeymoon because it is next to impossible for him to get time off in the summer months (plus we live on Cape Cod, which is great in the summer).  But we have no idea when or where we will go.

  • It depends- iif you book now, you have to pay for at least your airfare, and if you do it through a travel agent you can then make payments so it's not such a big hit. We just went to the travel agent on Sunday, and we booked our honeymoon. We paid for our flight and put money down on the hotels, going to Hawaii, and while she was booking our seats, our agent said "wow, I can't believe how booked this flight already is." And we aren;t leaving until July 1. So I know I made a good move booking early. I would start looking at flights and checking out the avilabale seats. If you wait too long, you pay more, and the better flights might be booked up. It seems to me more and more people are booking early so they can pay it off.

  • We're waiting a year to take our actual honeymoon due to financial constraints but we've determined we can do a short "mini-moon" right after the wedding so we're starting to plan that now.

  • We are waiting to book until January because of FI's job, he won't know his vacation schedule until then. Usually they are pretty accomodating with weddings, but we don't want to take a chance and then have to reschedule the whole trip. But once he finds out his schedule we'll book right away, we plan on going to Maui for 7 days.

  • We already booked our flight and room for our honeymoon. When I called the airline, the flight we wanted was almost full, so we decided to jump on it. I've been watching the prices on it as well, and it seems like the fares just keep increasing.
  • We booked our cruise a few weeks back. We wanted to get the deposit in so we could just pay a little each month and have it payed off by April.

We booked our honeymoon and flights already. We are going to Jamaica. It doesn't usually rain too much in June/July there. I did want to go to Mexico but when I looked up the weather it said it can feel over 120 degrees in Mexico in July. Our wedding is June 29th so we would be there in July. That's just too hot for me! We are going to couples swept away in Jamaica and I have read a lot about the weather there. They have their own forums and many guests choose to go in July because hurricane season scares others away!

ETA: I booked my flight last Sunday and I just checked today... it already went up over $100

  • We actually booked our flights and hotels/cabins for Alaska in June!  There's not many hotels, cabins, etc in each town we're going to, so we wanted to make sure we got our first choices.  One place only had 3 cabins, and one was already booked when we looked in June!  We also got a great deal on the flights and we were able to get one with a really short turnover, so I'm glad we booked when we did.  I don't think it's too early at all, I'm sure people are already planning their summer vacations for next year!

  • We are taking a long weekend away to Door County Wisconsin

That's a few hrs north of us so we will be driving.  He can't take that much time off of work so that is all we have for now.

  • We're waiting to see what kind of travel deals Groupon, Living Social Rue La La etc come out with. All the offers now aren't good in June next year so we're waiting for that. If nothing like that works out then we'll take a mini-moon and do a big trip for our anniversary since money is tight.
