Rice Krispies Treats Wedding Cake?

I love rice krispies treats, I mean LOVE. So, would it be odd to have one as a wedding cake?
I don't particularly care for cake, and fondant, to me, is soooo.... yucky lol
I did a quick google search and found this one that looks JUST like a wedding cake:
I would have to make it out of these though, because these taste way better than homemade:
It's 32 ounces!

  • I love Rice Krispee treats but completely disagree that the packaged ones taste better than homemade.  Use only Kraft marshmallows, use only Imperial margarine, and use only real Rice Krispees and they'll be 100x better than the ones from a bag.

You might consider offering Rice Krispee treats in addition to traditional cake as many guests love actual cake and look forward to that part of the wedding.  But completely up to you.

I think it's because I've... never.... made... my.... own!
I didn't grow up with it, it was something I started eating when the prepackaged ones came out.
I will get what you said and make a batch this weekend and test it out! Do you have measurments for the recipe?

I always follow the one on the cereal box to a T.   Some people add extra marshmallow, but I prefer mine less goofy than that. =)
  • I'm with NOLA on this. Homemade Rice Krispie Treats are the best.

I would still have a cake too. FWIW, I hate fondant. We had regular frosting. You don't need fondant on a wedding cake.

  • I love Rice Krispy Treats.  And yeah, homemade is the way to go.  But I'm not gonna lie, if I went to a wedding that had that instead of actual cake, I'd be a little sad.  But if it was delicious, I'd get over it.
  • I love the idea! Who doesn't like rice krispie treats! It would be different and you could really get creative with it.
  • Thank you so much for all of the responses!
I'm thinking about doing a 3-4 layer cake with half rice krispies treats and the other half regular cake.
And buttercream is definitely the way I'm heading with it because fondant, blech!

This sounds really cool and the rice krispy cakes are lovely!  You could do a smaller version of a cake made out of treats and then have cupcakes for people who would rather have cake...

And I agree with everyone else that homemade are best  :)  My kids like it when I make chocolate ones (with cocoa krispies) or use flavored marshmallows (strawberry, caramel, etc.) but my favorite is always the original homemade kind.

    Take care,

    Kim

  • I'd prefer regular cake.  Marshmallows/rice krispy treats aren't vegetarian, so I'd be bummed if I didn't get any dessert.  So maybe have both?

  • I went to a wedding a few years ago where the bride had a tiered wedding cake that was both regular cake and frosted Rice Krispies and it was amazing! The regular cake was funfetti and the Rice Krispies were also covered in buttercream frosting.
I was dating her cousin at the time and they were still serving up cake at the brunch the next morning. Nothing beats that for breakfast. ;-)
