Alcohol - help!

Hey everyone!

I'm having a hard time figuring out how much alcohol to purchase for my wedding. I've tried several different online calculators, but they all give me different results. Please help! My biggest fear is not having enough.

My wedding is a Friday night and the reception will be about hours. There are roughly 130 drinkers, about 20 of them I'd consider light drinkers. The rest may have a touch more than they usually would (free booze lol!). We'll be serving wine, beer and liquor.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'm wondering the same thing for my 200 guests for a 6 hour reception.  My fiancé and I actually charted what all the various websites and drink calculators suggested and they varied SO much.  We may run out, we may not...it was a headache I was done dealing with.
  • Not sure which calculator is the best, but one suggestion I know friends have used is to make sure that whatever they do not open can be returned. Then, instruct the bartenders to only start a new bottle when the other is totally empty - that usually helps quite a bit if you've over-bought your alcohol.

  • I'd go with the highest estimate. If you have a little extra, you can use it some other time. If you run out, well, that would stink.
  • I agree with AndreaJulia, choose the highest estimate. We brought our own beer keg, 24 bottles of various wines including champagne and dessert wines, and pre-made signature drink of "Loaded Lemonade", made with lemonade & lemon vodka. We had about 2 litres of the signature drink left, about 6 unopened bottles of wine and not sure how much was left in the keg. This was for 73 people, only 3 of whom were kids, and a 5 hr reception. But our guests were not super heavy drinkers. Most were adults in their 30's or older.

Not sure how it works where you live, but buy from a place where you can return unopened bottles if that's possible. We kept the unopened wine and used it afterward.
