Re: serious question

  • It's time for a Logan Echolls quote:

"Rode Hard, meet Put Away Wet."

This is right across the river from me.

When you are 29 and 30 and think it's okay to put your kid in a cage in a truck, yes.

I'm almost 30 and I swear if I look that bad I hope someone tells me. This is also why I'm okay with spending a lot on my face products. If I ever get on the news for something, I want them to say "that woman doesn't look like the sort of 30 yo who would do whatever. I'd peg her as 22."
  • PMeg, I'm sure that even if you looked like that, you'd take the damn cigarette out of your mouth before the press took a picture.

I would. And I'd fluff my hair a bit.
  • I am guffawing at that.

Even the cigarette was rode hard and put away wet.
  • Reporter:  Can you tell us why a boy was tied to the roof of your car?

PMeg:  Well, he really likes wind, and rope and going to Wal-Mart, so I didn't think it would be a big deal.  It's his 10th birthday and we were out of room inside the car because of all the ammo we just bought for his birthday party.  He was having fun. I just want my son to be happy.

Reporter:  Your son?!?!  Surely you aren't old enough to be his mother.  I thought you were the babysitter or a sister.

PMeg:  (tosses hair) Honey, a little moisturizer and sun screen go a long way.

Reporter:  (turns to camera)  We'll have more on this this fountain of youth in handcuffs at 11.  Jim, back to you.

I remember riding in the back of the pick-up with the dog, and we didn't have a cage or seatbelts - just open air!  Ah, country living!
Now I'm thinking back to all the fun I had in cars in my childhood and thanking God my parents were never arrested for it . . .

Very, very true.  We were always on the back roads.  But despite that, there were always so many police cars around, so I'm sure my parents could have still gotten into some trouble.

    and the cigarette is broken.

I think that the broken cigarette is pretty much a reflection of these people and they way they live their lives.

  • It's legal here to let kids ride in the back of the truck IF it is your family's only mode of transportation and the cab is already full of young'uns.

  • hopefully the landscapers in TX don't see this report - or they'll strike until someone gets them a cage that's strapped into the back of the truck.

i see pickup trucks with 2-3 guys in the back on a daily basis.
  • Has no one though of asking the kid what happened.
  • she's only 10. how would she know what happened in the first 20 years of her parents' lives?

Yes, or you could have just as easily had an accident on a back road and been killed or paralyzed.

This whole "It's just country roads" thing is mind-bottling. SIL and NBIL said the same thing about letting Niece sit on the back of the convertible on the ride home. Because, you know, no one ever has accidents close to their house or off of major highways.
