Welcome Bags Galore

My FI's entire family is flying in from out of state and they are staying at houses throughout the area that they found on VRBO. Is it necessary for me to get all of them welcome bags too? My wedding is 30 mins from where I live and many of my friends are staying in hotels, they aren't technically from out of state, but I thought it would be nice to give them welcome bags. It is adding up to be about 40 bags including my family that lives 30 mins away and are choosing to stay in the hotel. Just trying not to spend a fortune. I also have the following items and wanted feedback if this is enough.....small bag of chips, biscotti, fruit leathers, granola bars, large peppermint patty chocolate, and Lindt chocolates. I'm also including a local area magazine with info and a welcome letter/itinerary.

Re: Welcome Bags Galore

  • I kind of feel that if you do it for a few you should do it for all. Something you could do is put out bottled water by the exit for people to grab on their way out. Great way for them to get re-hydrated after dancing & drinking.
  • Agree with @Erikan73, if you do it for some OOT guests, you should do it for all. Maybe your FI couldhelp drop them off to his family. For ours we're doing a weekend schedule w/ map of events and "thank you for supporting us" line, a bottle of water and a couple of snacks (Costco). I went a wedding a couple years ago that had welcome bags and the bride and groom wrote a poem about how everyone would get really trashed and sloppy so they included advil and water in the bag and forgave people in advance for acting a fool. To each their own, but I thought it was really tacky and set an immature, frat-party-like tone.

  • Thanks! I think I'll just give them to any guests that are in the hotels we suggested and the 3 homes that my FI family are staying in. I wish I could spend more, but I think that most people appreciate the thought and getting a bag of snacks is pretty nice. I remember eating many of them late night after a wedding. We are giving Boulder chips to everyone since it is in Boulder, but I can't think of any not super pricey local items. Thanks for all the advice everyone!
