honeymoon planning

To those who already booked your honeymoon, did you book it online or did you go through a travel agent?

I feel like it would be cheaper to book online through travel deal sites like groupon or virgin vacations, but think a travel agent will be more knowledgable to get us more of what we want. Any thoughts?

Re: honeymoon planning

  • where are you thinking about going on your HM?

We are going on a norwegian cruise line cruise and booked it on their web-site. We booked our flights and hotel rooms on expedia.

  • Depends on where you are going and what you are planning on doing.  We went through a TA since we are going to San Diego then to Oahu then to Maui.  We didn't want to have to deal with the flights, hotels, timing, etc.  If we were only going to one location we would have done it ourselves.
  • We are going to Cozumel, Mexico. We booked through Richard Silva at fantasy vacations. I think for us it was cheaper to go through a travel agent.I found a price on bookit.com and got him to do better. Same hotel, better flights and cheaper. Plus if you want to add excursions in you can do it right through him. And also you can get insurance. Plus we only put a deposit and are paying it off. I'm not sure but I'm assuming if you go through Groupon you have to pay for it all right there. BUT Groupon and living social do have really awesome trips for very good prices. Do you know where you want to go? You can just contact a travel agent and get info on different places without actually booking. I got prices from a few different travel agents and researched bookit.com and cheapcarribean.com before making any decisions.

We looked around online and then found out that FI's company has a TA they work with that gets great deals with a company discount.  It beat anything we could find online by a long shot and were actually able to pick our first choice of resorts and still be in budget by using her.

I would just look at all of your options: Online, discount sites such as groupon/living social, things like expedia, and a TA.  A lot of times the TA can beat what you find online if you print it out or send it to them.  Like most of the PPs have said, it just depends on where you want to go.

  • We will probably be booking this weekend and are actually planning on using Luxurylink.com. They've got a lot of good deals on certain places. We've been researching for like 4 months though and think we've found our best deal (Antigua).

  • We went through allinclusiveoutlet.com. They give you a personal TA and she helps you set everything up. They give you free transfers from the airport. It was also a little bit cheaper than through orbitz or any other travel sites. They also sent us a nice package with all the tickets and information in this handy little bag (which we will probably use to keep all our important documents and money in while we are there)!

  • Our resort was booked through a timeshare site and the flights (will be) through expedia.  All day trips will be through the resort/specific companies.

  • There was a post about this the other day...
We used Expedia; but I researched a ton of different places to make sure we got the best deal. I checked with AAA, hotwire, orbitz, priceline, direct through the airline and resort. Expedia ended up being the best deal for what we wanted.
  • I haven't worked with a TA, but I've heard that many of them will match internet pricing. I don't think it would hurt to print out how much your vacation would cost online (groupon or cheapcaribbean, etc), then go talk to a TA. If they list a higher price, show them the paper and ask to match it.

If they can't, you can always go back to booking online.

I booked our honeymoon through cheapcaribbean.com.
  • I am a AAA member so we used their travel agent at one of our local AAA stores. I'd highly recommend it-I feel better that I had someone else to help us through the process. We are going on a Carnival cruise to FL and the Bahamas.

  • We went to a travel agent and all she did was try to book us into stuff that was way too expensive. I realized that I had plenty of time to research it myself.

I think TAs are good if you have a complicated trip or don't have the time to do extensive research.

  • We booked/booking everything ourselves. We do travel a lot so this was just easier for us. We are also using a lot of loyality points so we had to book directly through their sites.

  • We have to save up some more before we can afford our honeymoon so we won't be going right after the wedding.

BUT I have booked a lot of travel in the past and I highly recommend priceline for hotels and and rental cars....they have GREAT prices (and the name your price option is amazing).  They are very easy to use and their customer service dept. is very helpful.
