Who makes sure the wedding runs smoothly?

I'm renting out a vacation house on a lake and I'm doing everything myself. I hired a catering company, I ordered chairs and tables for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. So on the day of the wedding I'm supposed to be relaxed and get ready with my bridesmaids, so who is supposed to do the decorating, making sure everything is delivered and set up, and etc if I didn't hire a wedding planner?

You can hire a day of coordinator or talk to the caterer and see if they offer those services.
  • If you didn't hire someone to do those things it is on you to do them.  When our third daughter got married I finally hired a day of coordinator.  Best money I have ever spent in my life.

You will have to hire a day of coordinator if you don't want to do it yourself.

Our day of coordinator/planner was awesome. We didn't have to worry about anything all day. Well worth it.
  • Well if friends or family offer to help, then great - if no-one offers, I would hire a DO co-ordinator.
  • Question about day of coordinators, how often do you speak with them beforehand to help them understand how you envision your wedding to run? I am debating between a day of and a month of coordinator but honestly it is just because I'm worried that a day of wouldnt have enough time to learn what needs to be done. I'm having a slightly non traditional wedding and reception with tons of DIY elements.

I spoke with my DOC once in person before the wedding, and we exchanged maybe 3-4 emails. I had a very specific floor plan. Every box was labeled and marked according to the floor plan with very detailed istructions.

We scheduled one in-person meeting with ours at the site/venue 3 weeks prior to the wedding to meet her (we've only communicated via phone and email thus far) and walk her through materials previously sent - seating, equipment placement, timeline, etc..

Our package includes unlimited emails and communication, but I haven't found it necessary. I've bounced a couple ideas off her, but other than that I'm basically emailing her a packet with the who, what, when, where, how prior to our meeting so she can review and prepare questions/input; going over it with her in person when we meet; and letting her take the reigns - that's why we're paying her. :)

  • Definitely hire a day-of coordinator if you haven't already and don't want to worry about the details yourself! Ours was included at our venue, and I can't imagine having to keep track of everything myself.
  • Thank you girls! :)
