Where could I find a cute dress for a shower in size 12-16?

One of my girls is having a difficult time finding a dress to wear to my shower, and she is feeling kind of down on herself. I hate to see her like this and I want to cheer her up and make her feel beautiful, so I want to get some reccomendations for stores that carry sizes 12-16 dresses that are stylish, non-matronly, and good for a spring bridal shower. We're in the central CT area. She has tried Talbots, JC Penney, and Macy's....no luck. Any recommendations are much appreciated! Thank you!

  • Hmm based on the other stores you've listed, I would also check out Dress Barn. I was shocked when I went in recently (and checked out their site) they've really revamped their stuff.

Most of their dresses are either structured in a flattering way or also utilize a belt to accentuate the waist. And they have cute 3/4 or short sleeve cardigans as well.

Something like: thisthis, or this could be really cute, for varying levels of formality, but you should check out the rest of the site. Also, I'm just gonna slide this your wayy (I've been stalking it online and debating whether or not to get it myself).

  • New York and Company sometimes have really cute dresses in those sizes as well. So it might be worth looking there.

  • You could also try Lane Bryant, I've never been there but I have heard they have specialize in clothes this size.
  • She should try target and kohls. I'm a 12 and just bought about 7 dresses for this spring between the 2!

These are great, thank you SO much! And that last one - I might have to snag that for my own shower :) We have a Dress Barn in my town, but I've honestly never been to a Dress Barn. How is the quality of their clothing? We were at JC Penney this weekend and noticed that the quality of the clothing is cheaper than the quality you get at, say, Anne Taylor or Talbots. When the quality of the clothing is so/so, it tends to fit awkwardly and that just doesn't look good on anyone. I think that was really frustrating to her - going into these stores and selecting her size, but then realizing it fits poorly becuase the fabric is crappy. I kept telling her it wasn't HER body that was the problem, it was the cheaply-made clothes! But I can imagine the frustration and I felt awful. Hoping Dress Barn will make her feel like the supermodel that she is! :)

  • NY&Co, Lane Bryant, Target, Kohls - got it, thanks ladies! We have some shopping to do this weekend...

  • I'd also recommend Davids Bridal - I've worn some of their off-the-rack bridesmaids dresses to events before, some are very cute and fun, and they often carry them in a variety of colors and sizes!

<div>The quality is fairly good - some of the dresses are made of polyester/ blends but thankfully those are very easy to spot (super shiny, feels thin). I've got some curves so I feel for your friend, when the material is crappy/clingy it will only look good on somebody w/ 0% body fat, and that sucks. At Dress Barn the dresses are more structured (ie not a potato sack) and that really helps to flatter a figure. You're a great friend to be looking out for her :) Good luck!!</div><div>
</div><div>ETA: quality is not as good as ann taylor in terms of the quality of materials, but I've gotten DB dresses for weddings before, and they've withheld some major dance floor moves and can easily be worn multiple times.</div>

When is your shower? I am a HUGE fan of the ASOS Curve Line. It is based in the UK but has free shipping and returns to the US and the price is right, and shipping only takes 6 days. The dress I wore for my shower was from there and I got tons of compliments on it. I buy just about all of my dresses from there. I like fashion and the JcPenney and Dress Barn dresses are too matronly for me.

I just bought this dress  it would be really nice for a spring shower and I got it for $50 because I signed up for the emails and get coupon codes all the time.

I would recommend she check it out. It starts at 14 and goes to 22, and it runs true to size. If she's smalleR that a 14 try the regular ASOS line.

  • I'm about a size 12 and I like Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor loft.  Have you heard of Boden?   www.bodenusa.com

They have some really cute dresses in cute prints.  You have to order online, so might need to be prepared for some returns to get the sizing right, but I really like their stuff.   I believe they go up to a size 16.  Quality is great.  They're a little pricey, but if you sign up on the website, they send coupon codes often.
  • That is my size and I get a lot at White House Black Market, They run bigger... So you might have some luck there.

  • I'm pretty obsessed with the website renttherunway.com  You can rent designer dresses for a fraction of the price.  From what I've seen, dresses range from $60-$150 so you can definitely BUY from somewhere else for the price but you'll def feel like a million bucks (or $1500) in these dresses.
  • What about David's Bridal?? I got my RD dress & shower dress there! They had such a great variety last spring!!
