NER: Going Away Outfit?

I'm only a few weeks away from my wedding right now, and I'm trying to decide whether or not to do a going-away outfit. I'm torn: I really want the cute exit /end-of-the-night pictures in our gown/tux, but we're leaving for our honeymoon very early the next day, and there's really no way we could get our "wedding outfits" picked up from our wedding.night hotel without seriously imposing on a friend or family member.

So, I'm curious: what did you ladies do? Any regrets? Advice? Thoughts?

  • Is your hotel local to a family member?

We left in our wedding attire, but met our families for breakfast before leaving on our honeymoon the next day. MIL took my dress then, and gave his tux to a groomsman to return with his.

I didn't know these were a thing (are they?).  Other than the pictures I've seen of "grand exits" (involving sparklers and the like), I can't think of a time when the bride and groom's exit from the reception is photographed.

Anyway, if there is no way to get your gown/tux to yours or a loved one's home once the reception is over, I suppose you've answered your own question.  Where are you honeymooning?

Are any of your bridal party staying at the same hotel that night?  Parents?

  • Are "grand exits" not common, or photos of the bride and groom in the exit car getting ready to go? I thought those were right up there with a tiered cake in predictability. But yes, that is what I'm talking about.

We're honeymooning in the Caribbean. Our wedding is where we live, but we're staying in a hotel close to the airport the night before to simplify things for our early flight. No one else will be in the hotel, sadly.

I've considered having the limo drive us home, us change, and then go downtown, but that seems pretty lengthy for an already long night.

There's only about 9 hours between our reception ending and our flight leaving, so we are pretty much going to be zombies no matter what. (Note to other brides: don't for this. Seriously. It sounded like a much better idea 5 months ago.)
  • We did go to MILs house after we left and before we went to the hotel. If dropping it off the next day wasn't an option, we would have changed then, but I just didn't want to take my dress off any earlier than I had to.

  • Is the hotel near any family?  You could arrange with the hotel to leave a suitcase for someone to pick-up the next day at their leisure?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I like Lynda's idea.   I asked where you were honeymooning because I thought it might make for cute "getaway" photos if you change into something befitting your destination (such as a sundress).

As far as how common they are, I really don't know.  I've only seen scenes like that in movies, but that doesn't mean they don't happen (maybe just not in my circle).
