Wedding gift help!

So my brother is finally getting married to his long time SO.  I'm super excited for them.   They've been together 10 years and weathered lots of ups and downs.  Its great to see them take this next step.

Because of some of the past drama, the couple has decided to have a small courthouse ceremony with their son and each set of parents in attendance.   They aren't registering for anything or having a reception.  Most likely they will be having a celebratory dinner with the family that night.   They will also soon be moving out-of-state for my brothers job and are in the process of closing on their first new home there.

I do want to send a gift to show how happy I am for this step in their lives.  Thoughts on a good present?   I was thinking a gift card of some kind, maybe for the move/new house or dinner celebration.  What would you ladies do?

Thanks!

Re: Wedding gift help!

  • I'm horrible at picking out gifts (which is why I love it when people register - but I do get why they aren't).

It could be fun to look into what is in their new town and get some gifts cards or passes or whatever for local spots/events that look really fun and that you think they would enjoy. And then also send a nice card congratulating them and letting them know how happy you are for them.

  • I hadn't thought about sporting events!  They are going to be an hour outside of Nashville and a few of their favorite teams from Chicago play in town every so often.  I might have to look into this!

  • It might sound a bit impersonal but may be a home depot gift card.  With our new home we are HD every weekend.

  • Check into Lowe's as well - see which one will be more convenient to their area. Good idea, @danser55!
  • Thanks ladies!  Home Depot and Lowe's are great ideas.   I'm sure they'll have lots of needs with a new place.

  • I know it seems a tad impersonal, but as someone who is currently in wedding planning mode and has purchased a home - the best gift is cash. I'd get a really nice card and a good bottle of wine or champagne. Tell them how happy you are for them and that you'd like them to spend the money on whatever they want! Splurge on a date night, purchase something out of reach for the new home...whatever! A gift like that is always appreciated.
