Budget friendly venue

So our ideas are ALWAYS changing but now we are looking for a venue that is super affordable.  We are on a tight tight budget as my fiance and I are the ones paying for most, if not all, of our wedding. And I already have over 5k in medical bills but I don't want to put our wedding off again because of my medical bills.
My fiance, who wants to be a big part of planning this wedding, wants a venue that does look like a 'prom venue' as he states.  For example, before it closed, we looked at La Rennissance in East Windsor and thats what 'prommy' is to him"
Ideally we'd like a place that does catering and prices are at most 55ish a person.  I found a venue in Bolton CT, A Villa Louisa, but to him it was too prommy.  We are looking at Wood Acre Farms next weekend and the rental alone is about 4500 then to get a caterer will be about 30 a person which isn't too bad .... I'm hoping that maybe we can get some sort of military discount off the venue because my fiance is in the service, his father my uncle an a big part of our wedding party!! But i have yet to find a venue that gives any kind of military discount.

So non prommy, if everything is included, chair tables facility, with a decently priced meal package.   ie seen a lot of help on these threads so hopefully someone understands my budget needs!!

  • I know the UConn Alumni Center was under $2000 to use but you need to bring in a caterer.  My girlfriend got married there and it worked out in their budget.
counting down to the big day
  • It's too bad your FH didn't like A Villa Louisa; my brother and his wife got married there last year and we had an amazing time.  The staff was wonderful throughout the whole thing.

  • look at the nutmeg restaurant in east windsor ct. they are very affordable and is not promy. Also dont forget that you can haggle! i haggle everything! I am getting married there next saturday. ill be posting reviews but i love working with the people there they are super nice.
  • boom - im not good at haggling!! I always feel so guilty!! Whats the best way to go about hagglig!?!?

Vader - yes i really loved a villa louisa and hes being so particular about being a part of the planning and getting what he wants as well, hes a firm believer that the wedding isnt just about the bride its about both of us which i agree with.  but i think price over runs all of it given our situation!!

Haha some people have it some people don't. remember they want your business and just start with $5 off per person/ free ceremony is usually good. Even if you get a couple dollars it does add up.

Oh and I just checked their prices and their buffet is only $50 a person. and their food is AMAZING i go there for dinner once and a while never had a bad meal.
  • Forgot to mention; I'm getting married at the Inn at Middletown and they were SUPER willing to work with us.  Katelin gave us a million menus (some not even wedding related!) and told us to do what we wanted.  We decided on a brunch.
  • We are getting married in October at La Bella Vista in Waterbury.  The grounds are GORGEOUS and their prices were really fair.  We basically gave them the price we wanted per person and they let us customize our own menu.  They even threw in some stuff that we said we could do without for free.  We wound up coming in under our budget and got everything we wanted and more.  We went to a tasting there and the food was incredible.

If you're looking to save money, also think about doing a buffet because they're usually cheaper than sit down.  We went that route for 2 reasons: 1. it's cheaper and 2. it's a little more relaxed/social than sit down.

And so far, everyone we've dealt with there has been incredibly nice and accommodating.
