Rec your coffee pot

Our coffee maker died this morning. So I'm asking for recommendations before I go shopping this afternoon. What do you have, and why do you love it or not? TIA!

Re: Rec your coffee pot

  • We got a huge chrome plated Mr. Coffee as a wedding gift that could double as a spaceship.  It was pricey, so we were surprised that someone got it for us, but we love it a whoooooole lot.

It's main feature is that it brews REALLY quickly.  Like, I only have to scowl impatiently at it for maybe a minute before I get my morning salvation.  It does other stuff, like have coffee ready in the morning before you get up, and probably predicts the future, but I haven't figured out those features yet.

  • For Christmas my parents gave a Keurig Vue. I love it BUT getting g coffee packs for it is a huge PITA. It is different than the Keurig so the K-Cups don't fit in it and they haven't made a reusable cup for it like the K-Cup. We get our packs at BBB because we always have a couple of their 20% off coupons. To get any good selection of flavors you do have to buy online for the Vue-Cups but if you went with a regular Keurig, K-Cups are everywhere and in every imaginable flavor of coffee, tea and hot cocoa.

  • We've got a Keurig too, since I don't drink coffee and DH usually grabs one on the way to work.  The hot chocolate is terrible though.  It leaves a bad aftertaste, but we love it for the simplicity of brewing small amounts.  I use it to get quick hot water too

  • We have a Keurig as well, which is perfect for us because H is a one cup person before work, and I prefer iced coffee, so I usually swing by McDonalds on my way to work.

  • I'm a Keurig fan.  Always a fresh cup.  The Kcups can get pretty pricey if you drink a  lot of coffee, though (like I do) and I didn't really like the refillable cup.

  • Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I love my French Press.  It really does not take that much longer in the morning, just boil some water on the stove.
If you like coffee, not the flavored coffees, this is the way to go.
  • @happyfor25 - what was your issue with the refillable cup? That would be a major deciding factor for us.

  • ::gasp::  I do not drink coffee.   We have the Keurig with a reusable cup.  DH loves the Dunkin Donuts coffee and the reusable cup makes it less expensive.   It's easy to clean IMO.   They have some iced sweet tea K-cups I use from time to time.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • FI drinks a lot of coffee.  I drink it now and then (I'm trying not to get hooked because I'm going to have to give it up when do teeth whitening before the wedding) and I drink tea.  We have a Keurig because we each can make what we like when we want it.  And we have a variety pack for guests.

THIS is what we have, And it is the best. It's programmable and all that jazz PLUS you can start dispensing it as soon as a few drops come out. Yes, I have been known to get one tablespoon of sweet nectar in my cup as it brews just to have SOMETHING.
And you don't have the issue of the pot burning the coffee, since it's insulated.

And just a side note - I hate Keurig. Sorry. I know that's an unpopular opinion.

ETA: It's a Cuisinart that we got from C&B.

I also enjoy the Keurig, but i'm not a fan of the Keurig Vue.  I have the regular at home, and the Vue in the office.  Although they don't make a reusable pod for the Vue I saw sites online that show you how to rig up regular keurig pods and normal coffee for use in the Vue pods if you are so inclined to do so.  I have not personally tried it out.
  • Also use Keurig. I can't drink coffee so I mostly use it for tea, chai lattes and hot chocolate. Variety pack for company. I haven't paid out of pocket for k cups since we got it in February cause I've been using gift cards to purchase them. Still have $130 towards BBB to get more so it works for me. I can definitely see how it could get expensive if you're a multi cup a day coffee drinker but I never was so Im not familiar with pricing.

  • I love my french press. It makes the perfect amount of coffee for me and it was pretty cheap. I have a plastic one so it doesn't break when I drop it.
  • I love my Kuerig.  Not only is it great for guests, but I love that I can make different flavors (the chai latte is great), cider, even iced tea (after putting it over a glass of ice obviously).  Yes the kcups are a little pricey but we are not everyday drinkers so it's okay for us.

My FH tried using an online guide to rig the K-Cup for the Vue and it got grounds in the coffee and we spent the better part of a week cleaning the whole thing of grounds. It works OK with hot chocolate K-Cups though but that's probably because you want all the powder in the cup.

In our area we have Pick-N-Save stores that sell Roundy's brand items and they make pods that fit the Vue. Plus my sister has been getting pods given to her she tries out and if she doesn't like them she gives them to me to try.

  • I just use a cafiteire (is that how you spell that? I have no idea) right now and it's great. I love Taylor's hot lava java coffee, it's super strong with caffeine but has a an amazing rich coffee taste. I'd love a quick machine though, the hotel we stayed in in New York had a coffe machine in the bedroom, one of the ones where you just add a pod. That was decent coffee.
This post wasn't very helpful :/
  • We have a Krups and a Keurig.  FI loves the Krups - it's similar to Pele's in that you can program it in advance and it has a stainless steel carafe so it keeps the coffee hot but fresh tasting.  He goes through 2-3 pots a day and then switches over to the Keurig for the occasional cup at night...  He's definitely a coffee fiend...

I like having both because we do a ton of entertaining so people have lots of choices...

    Take care,

    Kim

  • @Jenni8412...sorry, I just saw that you asked me about the refillable cups.  I'm not sure if the problem was the grind of the coffee we had but we found that we had a lot of grounds in our coffee.  I've had my Keurig for about 6 years and haven't tried the refillable cup since we bought it so the design may have improved since then.

I do really love my Keurig!  I make single glasses of iced tea (many flavor varieties are available) in the summer in addition to my 3 cups of coffee a day.
