Tent Wedding Help!!!

The venue we had originally wanted raised their prices before we made the final decision and now it's way too expensive for us.

We've decided to get married at my fathers and have a tent wedding but I'm clueless. If we rent silverware, drinkware..etc who washes that stuff before it's returned? Do we have to get a permit? Is buffet better in this situation?

Are there any tent brides out there?

Re: Tent Wedding Help!!!

  • You treat the tent wedding like you would any other wedding.

Look into caterers and see what they provide.  They may provide the dishware and sliverware for you as well as linens.  They will be able to let you know if buffet or plated would be a better option.  See if they provide bar service.  If not you would need to hire a bar staff as well.

As for a permit you would have to check your town that you live in because I am sure that varies.

Also some other things to consider is flooring for the tent.  Heating towers if the nights tend to be cool.  Portable bathrooms so guests aren't trampling through your Dad's house.  Parking is a big one.  Is there enough room for all those cars?  Should you hire a valet service?  Is parking on the street in your Dad's neighborhood allowed and not a fire hazard?

  • 1. If you're placing this tent on your father's private property, I assume you wouldn't need a permit just to set up the tent. But I can't tell you in certainty because I don't know where you're located- you'll have to research it for yourself. No matter where you are, you should also research noise ordinances and make sure his neighborhood association doesn't have any rules about large parties.

    2. Flatware, drinkware, etc. rental terms will depend on what catering company or party rental company you go with. Some have different rules about set-up, clean-up than others.

    3. I would assume a buffet would be easier for a caterer to do in this scenario, but again, talk to the vendors you think you'll use.

  • We found luxury porta potties and a valet service so I did look into that. I'll ask the caterer what they provide and I'll definitely look into heaters (GOOD IDEA). I'll ask the tent vendor about permits too, hopefully they know.

    Thank you ladies!
