Reception on the beach in California

Hey ladies, I'm recently engaged and my fiance and I are looking into a beach wedding. We have a very small budget as we are both still students with a limited income (budget at this point is $2500). I would love to have the ceremony and reception directly on the beach, but I've had a hard time finding a beach in California that will allow it. The places that I've found thus far won't even allow chairs at the ceremony. I want a whole food setup and possibly a portable dance floor, lighting, etc. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

#1, I would suggest posting on the Local Board that covers the city in California you're looking to get married in.

#2, Do you have your officiant yet? If so, he or she could provide some advice for good ceremony sites

#3, It sounds like you know it already, but having a ceremony or reception without a chair for every guest is not an option

#4, Have you considered a county or city park? Perhaps a community center? Many nature preserves also have education centers that they rent out for events. Sand and food usually don't go well together, so start thinking of other options for a reception site.

Check out California State Parks, here's the URL to their locations that allow for weddings: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=23428

Two of the locations are Crystal Cove State Beach and a number of beaches up in Malibu, including Malibu Beach. But you HAVE to be persistent on your contact! These people are State Employees and park rangers, not event planners and they can be difficult to get ahold of.

Another option is the Annenburg Community Beach House in Malibu. It's right on the beach and you can chose between a nearly 100 year old house designed by Julia Morgan, or the very modern beach house. They also allow outside catering which helps keep costs down. Here's the Beach house's rates:

Marion Davies Guest House:      $1200.00 (ideal for ceremony and cocktail reception)

Garden Terrace Room:                  $2900.00 (ideal for dinner and reception)

    Parking:                $12.00 per car

    Insurance:           $107.40

    Security:              $89.05

Here's the event coordinator's contact info:
