Engagement ring/wedding band

Are you getting your rings soldered together?

If yes, why?
When are you doing it, before or after the wedding?
If before, are you waiting till the wedding to put them on together?

If no, why?

Re: Engagement ring/wedding band

  • Since I asked I will start.

Yes I am getting my rings soldered together.

I am getting it done because my wedding band "hooks" into my engagement ring. I would never wear just my wedding band because it would look funny. I will not be wearing my engagement ring alone because I am married. And who does not want more bling ;)

I am doing it a few days before the wedding (probably Thursday).

I will not be putting it back on my finger until my FH puts it on during the ceremony. Which is going to suck because I am used to it being there!

  • No. Or at least, I'm not currently planning on it. No, because I honestly haven't though about it. We'll see what happens after we get married. I'm hoping I'll get a 2nd band for our anniversary (my FH knows I'd like one) and it twists like my e-ring does.
  • I am not. I think there will be days where I will not want to wear my engagement ring as it is somewhat bigger (since it has a solitaire) compared to my flat band so I might just want to wear the band some days.

  • As of right now I am not.  I thought about it just because my engagement ring spins so much.  The woman that helped me pick out my wedding band said that when I get my band all that will stop.  I also got a little smaller size in the wedding band.  I probably won't reconsider this until after I am pregnant and see how my hands deal with my wedding rings.

  • I am not getting them soldered together and honestly, it never even crossed my mind.

My e-ring is a very high set solitaire, and there may be times I just would like to wear the wedding band alone.

  • At the moment no, The jeweler seems to think I am crazy, because my e-ring sits down inside of a "guard" and he says it will spin and bug me. But sometimes I have photo sessions down in some more... "rough" areas to get the urban old destruction... and less bling is less noticeable for safety. (as if my camera gear isn't already noticeable LOL) but time will tell! I am going to be lost though when I send them in - in september for sizing, the band needs to match my e-ring, and the e-ring needs to be plated again to be just as shiny as the other half so they wear evenly.

  • This is my e-ring and band set, so the chances of me wearing the band without the e-ring are slim, but I don't know if I'll get them soldered together. I think I'll talk to the jewelers when we go on Friday and see what they recommend. Glad this topic was brought up!

  • My engagement ring has diamonds that go down onto the sides, so soldering them would cover up that detail.  Also, my ring doesn't spin at all, so I don't think it would be necessary.

  • My spins like crazy! Most of the time, it is not straight up. Apparently that is due to the fact that it is a tad big for me, so we got the wedding band a 1/4 size smaller. (Yes, 1/4 smaller. So strange.)

But, it's top heavy - so of course it will spin!
