Just Engaged and Proposals

Engaged....Now What?

I just recently got engaged, and though I knew it was coming and had been looking at ideas I am completely lost at what to do. We already picked a tenative date and we know our caterer, but the date we are looking at (1/11/14) is coming up quickly, and everyone I talk to says we are very behind. So what is the best thing to do first?

  • Figure out the budget, decide on a tentative guest list, envision your wedding big, small, church, etc., venue. You might also want to look for a photographer and dress.

Hahaha!  I just love the title of your post b/c that's how I felt when I got engaged. And then I put off planning for a year b/c of it.

Sit down with your fiance and decide what kind of wedding you both want and figure out what your budget will be. Who will be paying?  Is it you and your fiance, or have your parents offered to help? Come up with a tentative guest list, and then start looking for venues that meet your needs as far as budget and size.

The boards here are great for advice, and we love helping with weddings, so please feel free to join us!

    Congrats and happy planning!

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Same date!! :)

We hired a coordinator. But that's because we are doing a destination wedding and it'll be much easier for us that way. I also joined these boards for the exact reason that I had no clue where to begin (I eloped with my first marriage).

Good luck and I'm happy to see another January bride! We're a rare breed ;)
  • Budget and guest list! It will help limit venues and what not.
