multiple cakes

So I've seen a lot of "multiple small cakes" rather than one large wedding cake. I'm honestly loving the idea, and if I go with it I'm just trying to figure out different flavors. I know you should have 1 slice for every guest (even slightly more) but I'm kind of worried about more than say 30 people wanting red velvet, but that flavor runs out..

 Does this makes sense? Lol..

Re: multiple cakes

  • I would think of the individual cakes as one huge wedding cake.  Many times wedding cake tiers come in different flavors.  Typically the most neutral flavor is the largest teir and then you work your way up.

I would split the amount of flavors up into a percentage out of 100.  Like 50% of the cakes are vanilla with vanilla buttercream.  30% of the cakes are red velvet and then the remainder are raspberry lemon.

When talking to your baker they should be able to help you out on portions and such.  But as long as you have a slice of cake for each guest you should be fine.

Eric and I are having 5 small cakes that will all be different. Our's will be marble cake, one lemon cake, 2 with fruit and a chocolate. We are also having little fruit pies, fresh fruit, cookies and doughnuts since some people don't eat cake.

If you google "wee wedding cakes" it will bring up a oncewed.com page and that's where I saw my inspiration.

  • I like this idea.  Some like, say, chocolate, others prefer other flavors.

Even if you have 30 people who all want the same flavor, as long as you have one slice for each, you should be okay.
  • All of these sound great! Thanks!!
  • You could make the guests  part of the process.  Set up a poll on your wedding website.

If you not, plain vanilla for at least half..then play around with flavors of icing.
