Controversial Songs Played at Reception

People either love them or hate them. What are your feelings on the following:

  • Shout!
  • Hands Up
  • All the Single Ladies
  • Gangnam Style
  • Loveshack
  • Chicken Dance
  • Tonight's Gonna Be a Good Night
  • Macarena
  • Electric Slide
  • Cupid Shuffle
  • Cha Cha Slide
  • YMCA
  • Jessie's Girl
  • Stacy's Mom
Honestly, I have no idea yet. Want to talk it over with FI. Some I can see are annoying, but could get people up and dancing. Does it really even matter at the end of the day?

Re: Controversial Songs Played at Reception

  • I could give or take half of them.

I LOVE Beyonce, so I am sure single ladies will be played - but not to single out the single ladies or anything. (That song was played at my brothers wedding for the bouquet toss, it was pretty fun actually)

I know I don't want the chicken dance but that's about it. I would probably prefer the cha cha slide over the electric slide but like you said Sew, in the end does it really matter as long as everyone is up and dancing and having fun?

  • Of that list Chicken Dance & YMCA & Macarena are the only ones on my "no" list. Shout is actually on the "must play" list because of the significance from Purdue football games. (Just about every person invited will understand the significance.)

PS @gamerkytten, not to be rude... but, I don't know who you are. Have you done an intro post? :) Please do!! (Plusalso I like your siggy pic.)
  • Love Shack is a definite NO!!!!  I ran karaoke for 8 years and that is one of the most overdone duets!!!  LOL

When my best friend got married one of the guests, who arrived late due to having her bachelorette camping party, decided she "needed to get the party started" and requested Abba's Dancing Queen.  Not a single person is on the dance floor and she struts her way out into the middle and points her finger in the "come hither" style to a friends step-dad.  He got so embarrassed he turned beat red and beat a hasty retreat!!!  I've seriously never laughed so hard in my entire life!!!

  • <secretly adds "Dancing Queen" as a "possible" to play option>

...not cause of awkward dancing with stepdads, just cause it might get people on the floor. And FI likes ABBA.

  • I was extremely intent on have NOT A ONE cheezy song played at the wedding.
But something *clicked* after seeing "as long as everyones having fun.." written here a few times.  I should shift my focus and allow anything to be played if someone wants to hear it eh? It's probably a bit redic for me to be insistent on something that I don't have to bother with.
    S'mores. Just S'mores please.
  • I don't think I mind too much about what is being played.. Its sad but I'm a fan of 90s pop... and I truely KNOW there will be spice girls, backstreet boys, possibly even nsync, and i know one of my guests will be requesting britney and christina LOL add that with the country music and my FI is into heavy metal... (although i keep telling him no mosh pits LO)L its going to be interesting

@jenphotochick, I love 90s pop too!! I would love to have tons of it but FI isn't crazy about it. We met with one DJ who talked to us about his philosophy/style of starting off slow/with some oldies (while all the younger folk hit up the open bar, lol), then slipping in some 80s music, 90s music, and ending the night with top 40. I'm sure it's something lots of DJs do, but I suppose I never really thought about it, and it seemed to make sense/sounded like fun to me since I like all of those genres of music.

I actually think Gangnam Style is so much fun, as well as Single Ladies. I'm not a huge fan of the Black Eyed Peas in general, and that song got so overplayed on the radio (for a long long time I had an old old car that only had AM/FM, no CD player or anything!) that now I'm a bit tired of it. I also like Jessie's Girl, we use it to refer to my cat (you know, cuz I'm Jessy and she's my girl....lame I know, lol)
