Happy National Running Day!

For my fellow runner NEYers, I thought it be fun to ask some running related questions:)

Are you running today?  How far and anywhere fun?

What was last race you ran?  Where was it?  Did you raise money for anything special?

Do you prefer to run alone or with a buddy?

What race is on your bucket list?

Do you have a lucky race outfit?

Would you sign up for a race by yourself or do you prefer to run with groups of friends?

If you could spend part of the day running anywhere in the world, where would you pick?

Any special running goals for 2013?

Re: Happy National Running Day!

  • Here are my answers:)

Are you running today?  How far and anywhere fun?
Was debating this before I realized it was National Running Day and was planning on spin class, but will probably head out for a 4 miler instead.

What was last race you ran?  Where was it?  Did you raise money for anything special?
National Ovarian Cancer Coalition 5K.  It was at US Cellular, and we got to run the warning track as part of the course.   We raised about $2400 for Ovarian Cancer.  We only had 3 of us, but we raised a crazy amount and I was so proud of our team.

Do you prefer to run alone or with a buddy?
Depends on the day. Running is my clear-my-head-me-time, but sometimes I really like to gossip and run with a friend.

What race is on your bucket list?
I'm searching for fun destination races now, and honestly can't answer it yet.  Probably another half.  Maybe in wine country so I can celebrate really well after the race:)

Do you have a lucky race outfit?
Sadly no.  I swear by my Lulu capris though and have been wearing them a lot lately.  Maybe a cute skirt will help me PR my next race.

Would you sign up for a race by yourself or do you prefer to run with groups of friends?
I tend to always sign up with a group.  It makes the after party more fun.  But I am considering a solo half this year because my usual group wasn't feeling it.

If you could spend part of the day running anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
Probably California along the coast.  I am really looking forward to running though Hawaii on our honeymoon, though.

Any special running goals for 2013?
Get back under a 30 min 5k.  I was there in 2011, but slacked on my running in the second half of 2012 so I'm a little slower:(  And definitely another half!  I just need to find the right one!

I wasn't planning on it until I found out it was National Running Day, but now I think I'll go do a quick 3.  I have a 5k on Saturday and some tension to run off, so it will be good for me.

What was last race you ran?  Where was it?  Did you raise money for anything special?
I ran the Fifth/Third 10k on May 8th, my first 10k ever.  There were a couple of donations made in my name to the Jason Kinsler Family First Foundation.  Jason was a friend of FI who was running the Fifth/Third 25k two years ago, when he very suddenly collapsed and died from a latent heart defect.  His wife set up the foundation to assist families coping with sudden and unexpected losses.  She was blessed that they had a plan, insurance, etc. so she's passing on his knowledge and financial assistance where she can.

Do you prefer to run alone or with a buddy?
    Usually alone.

What race is on your bucket list?
    The Grand Rapids Half Marathon.

Do you have a lucky race outfit?
No, not really.  I do wear my Nike hat in every race, though, just to keep the sun off my face.

Would you sign up for a race by yourself or do you prefer to run with groups of friends?
I've always signed up with people, but invariably end up running alone.  I seem to lose everybody immediately after crossing the mats.

If you could spend part of the day running anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
Down long, lush, green country roads in Ireland.

Any special running goals for 2013?
Not particularly.  I'm running a 5k on Saturday with my step-son who is in a running club at school, so that will be a neat experience!

  • Are you running today?  How far and anywhere fun?
I would like to fit in 4-5 miles tonight at the park or at the gym. I usually go run in this really cute park close to work and the track is exactly one mile and it surrounds this big field.
What was last race you ran?  Where was it?  Did you raise money for anything special?
I ran the Hot Chocolate Run which was a 3K/15K back in January I believe. It was in downtown Atlanta and it raised money for a few charities. I'll have to go back and look and see what all they were.
Do you prefer to run alone or with a buddy?
I actually prefer to run alone because I get into my zone when I'm running and it helps keep my pace. If I'm just casually running for exercise I don't mind running with someone.
What race is on your bucket list?
I would like to do the Rock and Roll half marathon in Savannah where they a different band every couple miles of the race. It looks like so much fun! I think it happens in November so that wouldn't work for this year really but maybe next year.
Do you have a lucky race outfit?
Nope but I like to buy a new running outfit for each Peachtree Roadrace I do every 4th of July.
Would you sign up for a race by yourself or do you prefer to run with groups of friends?
I don't like going to them alone but I don't have to run with someone the whole time. Usually the races are downtown and it's probably safer to go with someone.
If you could spend part of the day running anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
I have no idea lol. I would like to run next to the ocean during the cool hours of the morning probably. It's so peaceful.
Any special running goals for 2013?
Get under an hour for my 5K this summer
  • @radleyboo I've seriously considered the GR Half lots of times.  I went to GV and its a good excuse to get up there.  The last couple years I've either had a conflict or its the same weekend as GV homecoming and I would be in no shape for a race the day after:(   When is it this year?

@mhollister89 The Rock n Roll races are so much fun!  I ran the half relay in New Orleans last year, and it has been my favorite race so far.  My sister and I were looking at the Hot Chocolate in California this year.  Wedding plans put that on hold, though.  I've heard good things about Hot Chocolate.

Are you running today?  How far and anywhere fun?
I have plans to run with a friend tonight. We like to go to this paved sidewalk called The Greenway that runs alongside a large creek in our area. I like it because it's away from traffic and surrounded by nature. We'll probably do 5 miles since I have a 10k coming up next month.
What was last race you ran?  Where was it?  Did you raise money for anything special?
The Atlanta Peachtree Road Race in 2012. It's a 10k that goes through downtown Atlanta. I think the race benefits some charities but I didn't raise any money.
Do you prefer to run alone or with a buddy?
I like running with a buddy. It helps to keep me accountable. I also feel like I run faster and more when I have someone there with me to distract me from thinking about how tired I feel. I usually end up running alone though. My one running friend usually works in the evening.
What race is on your bucket list?
Don't really have one in particular. I think it'd be fun to do one of those zombie ones where people chase after you.
Do you have a lucky race outfit?
Nope. My only concern is finding bras supportive enough for my ginormous boobs.
Would you sign up for a race by yourself or do you prefer to run with groups of friends?   I'd definitely sign up with a group of friends. It just feels weird to me to go to a race alone.
If you could spend part of the day running anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
Nowhere specific but I'd like it to be fall time so it's cool and I'd like it to be in a forest so I could admire the leaves changing colors.
Any special running goals for 2013?
Run at least 4 miles of the Peachtree if not more. BF hasn't been training at all so I don't really know if it's gonna happen. Over time I'd like to be able to start running a full 10k and do some hill training so I suck less on hills.

  • I don't run but I want to play so I'm going to pretend that "running" is code for "sex".

Are you running today?  How far and anywhere fun?
I hope so. All the way and in bed.

What was last race you ran?  Where was it?  Did you raise money for anything special?
Missionary. In bed. No, that's illegal.

Do you prefer to run alone or with a buddy?
    With my husband.

What race is on your bucket list?
I'm content with all that we have accomplished.

Do you have a lucky race outfit?
My birthday suit is preferable although I did get some pretty lingerie at my shower that I need to try out.

Would you sign up for a race by yourself or do you prefer to run with groups of friends?
By myself or with my H only, please and thank you.

If you could spend part of the day running anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
Doing it in the middle of the African bush was pretty damn cool.

Any special running goals for 2013?
    Don't get KTFU.

  • @suzie211- That's good to hear that Rock n Roll was a good race. My neighbor told me about it and she loved it. Hopefully I will sign up for it if it's in ATL in 2014.

The Hot Chocolate race was sooo awesome! It probably doesn't help that they give you a bunch of melted chocolate and things to dip in it afterwards though lol. Definitely a must do though.
  • @rdr716 - I just want you to know I loved your post :)

  • @suzie211: The GR Half is October 20th this year.  I have a bet going with a prospect of mine that if he buys something from me before then, I'll register and run.  Hope he does sooner than later so I can train!

  • @rdr716 LOVE!!!!

@radleyboo I might have to seriously look into it for this year.  As of now, I have no obligations that weekend!  Let me know if you do sign up.

@mhollister89 I love chocolate and would be very happy to see lots of it at the end of a race.  I might check out the one here.  I think it runs through Lincoln Park and is in the fall, which would make for great racing weather.

    Nope.

Would you sign up for a race by yourself or do you prefer to run with groups of friends?
    I'd sign up solo.

If you could spend part of the day running anywhere in the world, where would you pick?

I ran yesterday morning (I didn't see this until Thurs) during boot camp. Probably about 1.5 miles total

What was last race you ran?  Where was it?  Did you raise money for anything special?
I ran the Frederick Half Marathon here in Frederick, MD on May 5. I did not raise any money.

Do you prefer to run alone or with a buddy?
It depends on the day. Some days I like to be pushed a little. Others I look forward to turning on my iPod and zoning out.

What race is on your bucket list?
Any Half Marathon in Europe. Preferably Ireland or Austria.

Do you have a lucky race outfit?
Nope, but I like to be matchy matchy.

Would you sign up for a race by yourself or do you prefer to run with groups of friends?
I almost always race by myself.

If you could spend part of the day running anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
    Ireland or Austria

Any special running goals for 2013?
Get faster. Preferably back to sub 10-minute miles.

  • Well, I don't run but tomorrow is National Doughnut Day! So, there's that...

But, seriously, I think those color runs look like SO much fun.
