Any experience with Recyclebride.com?

Hi ladies,

My future sister-in-law is planning her wedding and wants to know if you have any experience with Recylclebride.com?

She loves this dress, but isn't sure if she should get it from here? She is on a budget and does not care if it is a knock off, just only if it comes looking like this.

I would appreciate any feedback on this site.

Thanks in advance!

I sold a dress via recycledbride and I had a great experience with the buyer.   The ad you posted is a little different, becuase you have to hope the seller can get enough people who want the dress and can actually can GET it.  That is a diffrent experience all together.

Most sellers already have the dress (like me) and you can negotiate with them to send current photos, send a picture of the dress with a current newspaper or something specific in front of the dress (so you know they actually have the dress in hand, and they aren't just posting random internet photos of the dress.

I think this situation is a little risky.

Thanks so much for responding! I think I'm going to get her to look around some more.

So this site is sort of like craigslist, but for brides?

Exactly like craigslist or ebay, but for brides.   You can also look on oncewed.com, preownedweddingdresses.com.

Also, has she tried that dress on yet?   If she hasn't, she should try to go find it and try it on.  Most brides here are shocked that what they originally picked out from pictures end up not flattering their figures or just don't match their vision.  She should go try on a bunch of dresses before she buys anything online.  Also, wedding gown sizing is usually WAY off from regular clothes.  For example, I wear a 14/16 in street clothes, but my wedding gown was a size 20.  Most people are usually 1-3 sizes bigger in their wedding dress than their normal clothes.
  • I've bought and sold a dress on preownedweddingdresses.com.  It was super easy to buy the dress.  But make sure you get someone to measure you that knows what they're doing.  I have to get my dress let out 2 inches in the hips because I fail at measuring myself.

I would never buy a dress without a picture of the owner in it, or if it was never worn, pictures of the dress itself taken with a camera.  Like in the garment bag.  Or hanging.  Or like pp said with the newspaper.

I would be careful with this ad.  I'm sorry, it just seems fishy to me.  I realize they could be honest, and it could be true, but better safe than sorry.

  • I tried on a dress in bridal shop and then ended up finding the dress in my exact size for $400+ less. It was new with tags and unaltered. The woman selling the dress had bought the dress, but ended up deciding to wear something different. We did a paypal transaction, and the dress came exactly as described a week later.

My advice would be to definitely contact the seller and find out if/when it was worn, how it has been stored (in a bag, smoke free house, etc), if any alterations have been made, and for pictures of the actual dress if they have used stock photos. If they claim the dress is new with tags, have them send a picture of the tag on the dress. This way, you can verify that it is the correct dress, size, and not a counterfeit.
  • Yeah, this ad smells a bit off, but a friend of mine who just got married had an excellent experience with Recycledbride. She ended up getting her $4000 Christos gown for $1000 from another girl who had worn it for her wedding, and then she re-sold it for $700 (she had some alterations done and put a different belt on it). I would say to your FSIL to make sure she's tried on the dress she wants in person and that she knows her approximate size in wedding dresses. They really do vary.
