Are Wedding Party Gifts a Surprise?

Hello!

I just discovered that my fiance has been telling his groomsmen ideas for their groomsmen gifts.  Aren't they supposed to be a surprise?!  I told him to "shush" when I heard him spilling the beans.  I thought they weren't supposed to know about the gifts.  And then I thought, are they really suppose to be a surprise?  He is thinking on getting them all sunglasses.

:)

Re: Are Wedding Party Gifts a Surprise?

  • Do you mean that it's supposed to be a surprise that they get a gift? In that case - no. How would it possible be a surprise. Nearly every wedding does attendant gifts.

Or that what the gift is should be a surprise? I don't think it really matters - most guys don't care about gifts and surprises like women do. Will they all like the sunglasses? Make sure you shop for these guys like it's their individual birthdays.

  • IMO, it's strange to tell anyone what you're going to buy them for a gift, for any occasion, unless it's a big ticket item that they might like to pick out. Also, if the sunglasses are an item that he's purchasing for a photo op at your wedding, it doesn't count as a gift.

Sunglasses? That is kind of an odd gift. Sunglasses - especially the shape that works best for your face - seems like a personal item to pick out.
Yeah I agree with this as well. I'm hoping they are Oakleys or something (with a gift receipt) at least, otherwise I think the sunglasses aren't the best idea.

  • I can barely pick out sunglasses to look good on my own face, let alone someone else's.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • @AddieL73 I have the same problem haha. I've only ever found one pair that I think actually looked ok on my face. They met a sad end when I accidentally put them in the front pocket of my suitcase on a flight to Denver.

    They're now discontinued - I almost cried.

I agree with this - I don't think it needs to be a surprise, per say, but gifts by nature are surprises.
