Old Vegas

Hi,

We are planning on going to Vegas for part of our honeymoon. We have stayed on the strip before and are considering Old Vegas. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to do? What shows to see etc? Things to stay away from?

Thank you

Re: Old Vegas

  • Do you mean downtown Las Vegas?  I know everyone on Trip Advisor recommends the Fremont St. Experience and the Mob Museum as well as Neon Boneyard for exhibits to see.  I know you can do ziplining on Fremont St.  There are a few good restaurants (Hugo's Cellar, Vic & Anthony's) but that's about all I know.  The nicest hotel with the best pool is probably the Golden Nugget.

Personally I would stay on the strip and just do a day trip to downtown.
  • Thank you so much. Yes, I did mean downtown/ fremont street. My fiance really wants to stay at the Golden Nugget because of the pool, and from my research I figured one night would be enough or if we just commuted out there. We will probably do one night at Golden Nugget and the last 3 at Caesars.

    Thank you
  • Downtown is four blocks long. You'll be able to do and see everything there is to do and see in one afternoon/night.
  • Golden Nugget is beautiful, but one night will be PLENTY...
  • The neon museum is a nice way to spend an hour, you get to see many of the old hotels and casinos signs and the guides will tell you interesting facts and the history of Las Vegas. It is a 5-minute walk from Downtown. You should book in advance on their website. Try to go early in the morning (they open at 9.30) because it gets really hot and it's an open-air tour so bring sunscreen and water (if you forget, they sell both there).
  • 1 night is about 10 hours too long on Fremont street.

I love Downtown Las Vegas, cheap drinks and food and even cheaper gambling! You can actually find $5 tables on a Friday/Saturday night. If you are on the strip, the cheapest you can usually find is $15 if you are lucky, and they are packed 3 deep. It is just a bit more casual/comfy down there. Golden Nugget is probably the nicest hotel down there, would definitely recommend staying there. Although I have also stayed at the Plaza several times with no issues as well.
  • We liked being in Downtown Vegas more than on the strip. Things were so much more affordable. Specifically gambling. Our favorite was El Cortez which is what I would refer to as Old Vegas. It is a little dingier and smaller but has $3 poker games and 25 Cent Roulette. Much more fun then on the strip where it is so much higher then that. Also it wasn't as fancy and stuffy. Just our random thoughts. Although not everything on the Strip is like that it was just a lot more casual in Downtown.

    Good luck!
