Bridesmaid Dresses

I recently got engaged and have decided that I will only include an MOH in my wedding. I am paying for the MOH's dress because she is in college and is hardly breaking even. My question is, is when should we start shopping for her dress? Should I schedule an appointment at a bridal shop for this?

Re: Bridesmaid Dresses

  • Something around 6 months out should be plenty of time. As far as whether to go to a bridal shop, figure out the formality of your wedding first.
  • Around 6 months before the wedding is pretty good.  Mine ordered there's between 3 and 7 months in advance, just because it was better for their schedules.  Each time one went to try the dress on, we made an appointment, just in case.

It's very kind of you to pay for her dress!  :)

  • Thank you wittykitty14. I feel a little bit more knowledgeable about this kind of stuff!
  • depends where you go-- my bridesmaids ordered their dresses at the 4 month mark and they came in within 3 weeks (Davids Bridal).  So depending on where you want to order from can vary your timeline.  I would not want a dress hanging for 6 months since so much can change in that time.  Start looking for a style/color you guys like around 6 months and depending on where you go find out there typical order/delivery schedule so you can plan accordingly.  With one girl it will be easy to coordinate

  • Where I went they wanted us to order the BM dresses 6-9 months in advance (the same as for the wedding dress). This is something that I could not accommodate, as my FG would be wearing a junior BM, and at the adorable age of 11, would start to develop at any moment (which is exactly what happened!). I took my MOH and FG dress shopping a few weeks ago at Sears and bought both their dresses, for under $70.
