He wants 3 flower girls...

He has 2 nieces (they're not sisters) who will each be 5 years old by the time our wedding rolls around, and we have dear friends whose daughter will also be 5. He wants all 3 of them to be flower girls because he thinks it'd be the cutest thing ever.

Is this completely overkill? I'm not 100% against it, but it just seems like way too much. Would it end up looking like we just had too many kids and not enough things to do with them? Would the parents of these girls be insulted because the honor wasn't bestowed solely on their daughter? Could this actually be cute?

  • It would be ridiculous if the parents were offended that their daughter wasn't the only FG. So that's not an issue. Three seems like a bit much to me, but you don't seem too adamantly against it - it sounds like it's important to your fiancé and it would make him happy. He will likely make concessions for you, too. I'd say let them all be FGs and your guests (or the majority of them, at least!) will find them adorable.

Your wedding is 18 months away. Don't even begin to ask your flower girls (aka their parents) and your other wedding party members until about 10 months out. It's too early to think of it now...relationships and situations can change.

If you and FI still want all three girls to be flower girls come February, ask their parents first. You never know, the parents might not want their child involved or may have other plans since your wedding is during the holiday season.

I have no intention of asking anyone for a very long time. But FI and I are allowed to talk about things before then.

  • I once attended a wedding with more than twenty flower girls.  It was a bit much for my taste, but most guests thought it was adorable.  I think three is more than fine especially if you are close to all three children.
Don't worry guys, I have the Wedding Police AND the Whambulance on speed dial!
  • I don't think it is overkill. It could be fun! Google three flower girls and there are a ton of pictures!

  • We had three fg and one ring bearer. It was adorable. They all just stampeded down the aisle together and everyone giggled.
