Epic Photography?

Has anyone actually used them or know anything about them?
The guy on the phone is really nice and they've offered me a good deal, but I can only find one review of them, which is on all the major wedding websites. The guy says they've been in Dallas for about 10 years and he's not sure why there aren't any reviews. I asked my coordinator at my venue about them, and she hasn't heard of them, even though they told me they are there all the time and even gave me a discount.
Advice, anyone?

I really like their style from what they have on their website, but I've never heard of them.

Have you been able to meet them in person?  Have they shown you a complete wedding collection?  Not just the 15-20 best images but ever image from start to finish that they presented to the client?  I would be very hesitant because of only having one review and it is very short and has no details at all.  Photography is so important you really want to make sure you make a wise investment.  We have a post at the top of the board that has vendor information with tried and true photogs that girls on the boards have used.  Look through those and if a few really interest you then you can contact the girls who used them for more details.

I remember recently it said they were closing their offices in DFW. They are a huge chain I would be a little weary about them.

I'm originally from Dallas and currently live in Kansas City. I got a call from "Jake Aldrich" from Epic Photography saying I won $500 off from a drawing? I don't remember entering a drawing, unless they got my information from DB. He was a lot of fun to talk to and seemed to be alright, but I was also very unsure about the whole thing. I looked him up on Facebook to see if it was a legit person. His picture looked professional though. He said his brother "Cody" would be the second photographer, so I also looked for a "Cody Aldrich" in his friends. They're real people from Oklahoma City, but the college and job description didn't match. So, other than them being out-of-state, we just got a weird vibe and stayed local. HTH

Thanks for all the opinions! Based on everything I've read here, and on other posts where I found mention of them, something seems really strange, and I'm not willing to pay $1800 for something I'm unsure about. Cody is the guy I talked to on the phone.

If they would just level with me and say, hey, this is who we are, then I might consider them. But an out-of-area phone number, no name of an actual photographer, and no real information on who works there or where they are is not good enough for me. I've got a few good leads from other brides on these boards, and I'm hoping to book an actual photographer this week!

I actually met with one of their photographers when I was looking for photogs.  She didn't even bring a sample of her work to the meeting - definite no.

Someone from the Tulsa Bridal Association just called me to say I'd won a drawing, and it has $500 off from Epic Photography.  I'm a little wary too.
  • I also won a "drawing". They called from an in town area code and said they had already called me once, but I never recieved a voicemail.  I called back, got info and talked to a really nice guy, but when I quoted the number back to get a hold of him, he didn't know it off the top of his head and had to look it up.  Then he said he was calling from Dallas.  I live in kansas.  Fishy.
  • Yes. They get your information from "David's Bridal or Bed Bath and Beyond" and it's a margeting ploy. "You won $400 off a photography package" and so now you'll consider them for your photographys.
  • I got the same phone call from Michael at Epic Photography saying that I won a bridal package at a bridal show I did not attend.  He says he is from Oklahoma this time and wanted to talk about "my account".  I started getting calls today from DJ Connections and the guy's name was Ryan.  He had the same message that he wanted to talk about "my account" and the bridal package I had won.  I finally returned the calls and was told that I was one of 30 brides out of 1000 that had won this package.  After I told him I did not want it and hung up, I listened to my past messages from the 2 places.  The voice on the other end is EXACTLY the same person using different names.  Same verbage with a different name and different business.  I wouldn't trust them.
  • We went for it, and got a decent price. We did our engagement photos with them first and have photographers coming to the wedding. The photos came out very nice, and when we found editing issues they did their best to fix things. Unfortunately, we are photoshop savvy people, and found it eventually more efficient to do the touchups ourselves. Word to the wise- if you are getting hi res images, make sure you don't have dry flaky skin. Every detail shows up.
When all was done, our engagement photos turned out beautiful. Even my mom was thrilled. That being said, I am not sure I would do it again. The phone calls were obnoxious and I am not comfortable not knowing if it will be the same person at the wedding as the engagement shoot.
They also referred us to DJ connection, and both businesses were on the recommended list for our venue. Not gonna happen.
If I was to do it all over again, I would have our DJ (Steve from Celebrations-Events Dallas) do the photos as well as videos. He is brilliant, and is practically a wedding coordinator. I am more excited about his companies videography and our 30 day meeting with him to plan the event, than i am about the photos.
take the calls with a grain of salt. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't thrilled.  Hope this experience helps.
Definitely at least look at Steve's website: http://celebrations-events.com/
