Somewhere in Etiquette Heaven, an angel is crying

I feel like I HAVE to share this story with someone and who better than internet strangers?

So a few weeks ago I came across a facebook status from a girl I briefly worked with.
She was asking her friends if they would rather she just facebook them the invites to the baby shower she was throwing herself.

And then today HARK! I see that some of the other wives in her husband's group told her this wasn't "kosher" so she wouldn't be doing this.

I breathed a sigh of relief and read on...

One woman said she should throw her own baby shower because she's not close enough to anyone in their new town for someone else to throw it.

Another woman said this: " I agree with [girl's name] there is no shame in throwing your own baby-shower I threw my own three times and its your first so go all out girl dont worry what others think they just jealous." This is a direct quote.

And then I headdesked.

  • Ugh. Some people. I'm a BM in an upcoming wedding and when we were planning the shower I casually mentioned we should get the addresses for the guests from the bride since she has a list compiled for STDs and wedding invitations. Another BM just looked at me like I was crazy, so I clarified, "since anyone we invite to the shower has to be invited to the wedding, the bride already has all the addresses", and she rolled her eyes. Of course, that BM was quite the special snowflake for her own wedding, but that's a completely different story.
  • I know I'm gonna sound lame but.... Can someone please explain "special snowflake" to me? lol

  • Ohhhhh. Okay. Yea that's definitely what is happening. lol

Her facebook and pinterest are apparently connected so I can now see all the stuff she's pinning to her "Baby Showers Ideas" board.

    Sigh.

Why would anyone be jealous of a woman who has thrown three showers for herself?

I know....THREE.  Not one. Not two.  THREE.

If you're not close to anyone in your new town, who do you even invite to your baby shower?
  • Ugh. On one of my pregnancy apps this morning, it said to start planning your baby shower.
  • Wasn't there a poster a while back who wanted to ask her new neighbor, who she barely knew, to throw her a baby shower?  The poster was new to town and didn't know anyone except for this neighbor, so she wanted this poor woman to throw her a shower.  I think the poster was asking us how to word the question to her neighbor.

No. There's no way. You're joking, right?

Yup.  She also wanted the neighbor to invite her own friends as the gift givers b/c she (the mom-to-be) didn't have any friends or family to invite.  I feel like she came her bitching about the "rude" response the neighbor gave her...
