XP: Best foundation for photos

I hope its okay that I cross-posted. The beauty board seems a little dead, usually.

So my family is getting some pictures done next weekend. I considered having my make up professionally done, but I think I am just going to save the money and do it myself. I feel confident doing my eyes and lips and stuff, I just wanted to see if any of you have good suggestions for a photogenic foundation. Typically I wear a tinted sunblock because, okay, I don't want to brag, but I have really good skin and I don't need anything else. So, my skin is pretty even toned and smooth and I'm not prone to dark circles or breakouts or anything like that. I just feel like I need something with a little more coverage for photos.

Also, for some God awful reason we are having the pictures done outside where it is likely to be between 105-115 degrees, so I need something with a little staying power. Thanks!

smashbox is one  the best for photos.  Use the photo primer under the makeup for staying power and to fill in any small lines, etc.

  • I also love the smashbox photo finish primer. What about a BB cream for medium coverage? I just got Loreal Youth Code and I like it.
  • If you don't normally wear foundation, I'm a big fan of bb cream (Laura Mercier is the best) + a matte powder. I use Mac matte-ifying, which was recommended by my makeup artist. It really eliminates any shine.

  • Love smashbox and Laura mercier. Drugstore, revlon photo ready line is nice. It's what I wore on my wedding day.

  • Don't use anything with SPF, as it tends to create a white cast in photos. I like MUFE HD foundation and Nars Sheer Glow.

Smashbox is the best for photos from what I've heard. However, it's a little pricey so depending on where you get your makeup done, it might be cheaper to just go pro. For my wedding I was originally going to DIY my makeup and wanted quality products, but the total was well over $100 for all of the different products and Ulta does it professionally for $30, lol, so I went that route instead.

  • Just FYI @barbiiieee, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer (the clear one) is the exact same chemical formula as Monistat Chafing Gel. It works the exact same for a fraction of the price.

  • @krisbot, seriously!?! How did you find that out?!
  • @tarratall I have heard about the breaking out, but if you don't have sensitive skin it is a decent alternative to paying a lot of money for the Smashbox name.

@misssunshine17 my old MUA told me about it. She used it on herself all the time.

  • @tarratall I get what you're saying. They are definitely different but I didn't know that. I offered the information that I was given by a MUA and now I know it's incorrect. The Smashbox primer is a lot more than $10 here; I didn't know you can get it for that low in the US.

It's okay, You can only go on what you know!  I'm that annoying person that posts snopes links when people post "OMG!  TOLIET SPIDERS FROM ASIA!" and when my mom sends me political links that are all "someone blah blah blah Splenda is cancer by democrats" I make her cite her sources.

As for the smash box, It's recently gone down, the .4oz size is $10 (I get at least 90 days out of that, so it's about $0.12 an application) the full size was still $30 when I looked at it at Ulta.  Maybe I should start a program where I send things to Canada or trade for something great that we don't have here... like Cadbury Time Out bars.  Mmmmmm.

ETA: thinking about it, you'd think a MUA would not give you bad skin recs.
I know, right? I just trusted her because I figured she knew better than I did. And I'm cheap, so there's that too. But I'm glad to be in the know now.

As a chemistry teacher I am horrorfied that your MUA would say/ recommend such a thing.

  • If you live near a Sephora or MAC, you can get your makeup done, and you just have to buy a $50 gift card. If that's not doable I second the recs for Smashbox Primer and MUFE HD Foundation. It's my favorite foundation, and I'm a makeup junkie.
