Wedding Woes

Why, hello Monday

How was the weekend?

We finally got out the door Friday morning.  There was only one other fight, but we were on the road by 920.  Max is not nearly as good at travelling as the others, but we still made decent time to TN.  We had a wonderful time at the different family events over the weekend.  6let and M2 were fantastic.  Everyone commented on how great they were even when we weren't around.  Makes a momma proud.  They had a blast too- swimming, their first theater movie, hanging with new cousins.  Max had his first swim and DH and I got some rest.  All and all a good time.

Family gossip:  One of DH's cousins is getting divorced.  Apparently the woman is psycho.  Normally I'd think it was family taking sides, but she may very well be.  Cousin was in a minor accident with their 2 kids.  The day after he asked for a divorce she had him arrested for attempted murder.  She said the accident, that was not his fault, was actually an attempt on their lives.  Police came to his work and handcuffed him!

Re: Why, hello Monday

  • Glad you had a good time!  Yikes at cousin's wife.

Our weekend was good.  Saturday we went to a first birthday for our niece.

Yesterday we spent the day at the zoo and went out to eat for father's day.

I'm bummed because my laptop is in the repair shop.  It got a dang trojan.  I'm not supposed to get it back until tomorrow at the earliest.  Of course this is the day I have to do my payrolls, so here I sit at the slow-ass desktop.  Ugh.

  • Our weekend was OK.  We went out to visit DH's family in IL.  Friday, my IL's came and had dinner with us and then they took the kiddo home with them to ride to IL in the morning.    We slept in Saturday morning and didn't leave until late.  That actually worked out better as DefConn slept for over an hour in the car.  We hung out at DH's uncle's house.  They had smoked a pork shoulder the day before and then there was all sorts of good stuff to feast on and beer to be had.  We stayed at his uncle's house in the basement.  It was nice until DefConn didn't like how dark it was and that he couldn't see us, so he ended up in bed with DH and me.

So yesterday, we were all slightly cranky.  We thought we were going to go to lunch with DH's grandparents and then go home, but DH's step-grandma wanted us to go to their house for dessert.  Their living room is a glass on glass nightmare if you have a 2 year old.  Glass coasters on glass tables, glass vases, glass knicknacks, and about 35 bajillion Virgin Marys.  DefConn wanted to touch every last thing that he was not supposed to and he was also super cranky, so he screamed when you tried to redirect him. Once we got on the road, DH decided not to get gas before we left town, but to stop an hour down the road.  DefConn was sleeping, but woke up when we stopped and then never went back to sleep.  By the time we were on the edge of town, he was fit to be tied.  He pretty much griped the last half hour we were in the car and was cranky the rest of the night.  He cried himself to sleep for over 45 min.

We need to rethink our road trip strategy for the next time.

We went out there because DH's grandpa is in treatment for brain cancer.  DH's grandpa looks pretty frail.  But he was in good spirits.  He knows what's going on, but his speech is pretty slurred at times, especially when he's tired.  He loved DefConn and the feeling was mutual.  :)

Holy crap at DH's cousin, 6.  That's ridiculous and terrible.
  • Psycho wife indeed!

Weekend was busy. Went to a wedding on Sat that was absolutely beautiful! It was outdoor, complete with a tractor spreading fertilizer right in the middle of the ceremony in the field behind the property. Food was absolutely delicious, for cereal! Then instead of wedding cake, there was a selection of about 5 pies and 5 cakes, none of them looking like freakish wedding cakes. So I had to sample at least 3 :-/

Sunday was burgers and made from scratch phosphates and resulting food coma/most righteous nap. And Skype sessions with the menfolks.

    Made from scratch phosphates?

When cousin called his mom to bail him out she thought it was a joke and didn't do anything at first.  Then she thought maybe it was a fundraiser thing and started asking around.  Nope.  She had to bail him out.

  • Yep. Sodas = phosphates. This place has their own soda jerks, so to speak. They make their own syrups and create their own soda fountain drinks as you order it. The only sodas they don't make are Mexican Coke (uses cane sugar, not HFCS) and Diet Cokes.

Friday I worked and then, while Buffy was still @ my parents, went swimsuit shopping.
I came home successful, depending on how you define success.

Saturday we didn't do much; we left the pharmacy with a screaming toddler tucked under one arm and my face red, apologizing for having just pried my child's finger from a necklace that she was trying to break--so I cancelled the rest of Sat. afternoon's plans and told my child why.  It made her cry more.  It probably didn't help.

Sunday the Mr. spent the day w/ his dad and I rode w/ my folks up to visit my sister and have father's day.  I had made a gooey butter cake which was a hit.  My child didn't nap at all for the 3rd day in a row and also refused to take a bath--7:00 last night found me soaping off a child while she was next to the tub then handing her into the tub where daddy held her while I dumped water over her.  her hair is filthy but at least her body is mostly clean.
  • Saturday we went to the eye doc for me and then to Costco to get my glasses. My last pair of glasses and sunglasses cost me close to $900 at Lenscrafters because of my prescription. At Costco, with the same horrible prescription, I got 3 pairs of glasses (2 regular and 1 sunglasses) for less than half of the Lenscrafters' price. I was SHOCKED.

Saturday night, H made ribs and we had a friend over. We devoured 1.5 racks of St. Louis ribs, sent her home with 1/2 a rack and finished the last rack last night. FTR - Costco has really good and pretty inexpensive racks of St. Louis ribs.

Yesterday was H's birthday as well as Father's Day. H had homework and work-work to do so he shoo'd me and DD out for the day. When we got home he had snuggle time and play time with DD before she went to bed and he and I had a low-key evening.

All in all a generally nice weekend.
  • I'm just over being tired. Saturday I was up early and took the dog to the vet for a bandage change. Despite having a 7 am appt time, we didn't get out of there until 7:45 am which sucked. I picked up donuts and coffee on the way back, then we went and got DH some new dress pants for work. Came home, worked on groceries and some cooking. Left again to head over to my parent's house and we toured the new house they bought. Itis super nice and I'm jealous. Got home late and promptly crashed. Sunday we got up early and went to FIL's house and made brunch. I felt like sh!t. Sore, tired, and just nauseous. Got home and ended up taking a 3 hour nap, then grabbed some dinner. Went to bed early which ended up being a waste because I was up every few hours. And now it's Monday. :(
  • Saturday, DK planned a "date night" for the 2 of us at my favorite restaurant. When we got there for dinner, it was actually a surprise 30th birthday party for me. He had coordinated with some of my friends and got most of my mom's group and their husbands/boyfriends there. We had a lot of fun at dinner, and then went to a nearby pub afterwards with a few of our friends.

Sunday, I got up early with Wolverine and let DK sleep in. I sent him off to the movies, so he'd get a little bit of a break. We made a Target run after nap time, and hung out at home and watched True Blood.
  • Happy Barbie-mas!  :)  YAY for a surprise party.

Welcome to the Dirty 30's.  :D
  • That's awesome, Barbie!  :)  Dirty 30's is a great place to be.

This weekend was kind of washy.  H and I were having some spats over miscommunication, lack of listening and just overall life frustration.  It will pass, it's just hard right now.

Also, why doesn't anyone make a nice formal home/office desk that isn't "hey I'm a college student pretending" or "I'm president of the WORLD!"?   We're trying to re-do our study space and H would like a larger desk and to get rid of the futon in there, and get nice/small loveseat instead.  I agree wholeheartedly but it doesn't seem anyone makes such a desk.

  • Barbie, that sounds like so much fun. Major points for the Mr. for planning it for you. Yay!

    That's awesome Barbie.

eta: I'm still a little floored that you're only 30.  I thought we were closer in age.
