engagement pictures

When do you normaly get these taken? We have been engaged since december, but still unsure of when we will get to have the wedding. Should I wait until we figure out when we can have a wedding and do them close to that?

Re: engagement pictures

• Engagement pictures are not necessary, so whenever you want to take them you can. Usually people use them for the save the date cards (which is also not necessary).

• You'll want to choose a date, then a photographer. Since lots of wedding photography packages include engagement photos, I'd wait to take them until you've hired your wedding photographer.
• We just got our done at about the 5months to go mark. We wanted to get them done in the snow, but the weather didn't cooperate. So we waited until there was at least some green.

• I would wait until you set a date and start planning. Like PP said, photographers often include them in their package. The other perk is that it gives you an opportunity to "test drive" with the photographer. You learn how he/she works and he/she gets a better sense of your personalities and how best to photograph you.
• We waited until we booked the photographer (right after we set the date), whose wedding photography package included a complimentary engagement photo session.
• As everyone has said book the date and photographer. I know we did a few weeks ago and it is included in our package. Great way to know the photographer and get a sense of sytyle a little. We got engaged in November and will be getting ours in September at the school we graduated college from during alumni weekend! That gives us time to do STDs before our May wedding!

[QUOTE]Whenever. My friend did hers the week before the wedding, which is a bit weird, but the only thing that worked for her and her husband's schedule (he lived over seas). Like PPs have said, some photographers include an engagement session, so that might determine things. I do know that a lot of people try to have them done before the Save the Dates need to go out because they like to include a picture, but, like engagement pictures, Save the Dates are not necessary.

We did ours 2 days before the wedding.

We actually hadn't planned on doing them at all, but we decided to take an hour and use it to get comfortable with our photographer. Plus it was really nice to have some professional pictures of us not in our wedding clothes.

I don't think they are necessary at all, but like other PPs have said, sometimes they are included in the package.
• I agree with PPs. Date then photog then e-pic. Honestly, if your package includes an e-pic session I would exchange it for TTD or day after session. That is what we did and absolutely were relieved. Our best pics were from that session.

We did a very short e-pic session, however, but only to get the STDs out and we sent those out 8 months ahead so 'e-pics' were 9 months in advance.

• We'll be doing ours about 2 months before the wedding. But as PPs have said, you can get them done anytime. However, in order to book your photographer, you'll need your wedding date first.
• FI and I took our engagement photos within a month of our engagement. FI knew it was something I wanted to do and called one of our friends two days after he proposed to set up an photoshoot. : )
