Re: processional/recessional songs

  • I know I'm using the rondeau from Purcell's Abdelazer for the processional, but our organist is helping me figure out what else to use.

  • I'm a nerd. FH is a nerd. So we're doing songs from movie scores for all of our ceremony music. Yup. All of it. Well, okay, the exception is communion... but that one we got from Friday Night Lights. (And neither of us watch the show, it's just really awesome music)
  •    Love this post! I've been working on my music for the ceremony lately and I love Y'all's suggestions. We don't have a DJ for the ceremony so we are in charge of all the music and it has to be pre approved by the church.

I'm doing different genres of love songs for the prelude music. I love Motown and have found some really good songs but also love current stuff. I'm hoping they all mix together well. Some exp. are: I Won't Give Up, Jason Mraz, Stand By Me, Ben E. King, A Thousand Years, Christina Perri, You and I, Michael Buble, etc.

Not sure if I want a different song for the mothers to walk out to but I do want Canon in D for my girls to walk down to and I will walk down to Ave Maria, instrumental version. I have a vision in my head of being announced husband and wife and At Last starting to play as we kiss. That's what I'd like to walk back down the aisle to.

@lpllons I totally love your idea! What songs have you picked out so far?

I am going to walk down the aisle to 1000 Miles by Christina Perry and our recessional is going to be All You Need Is Love by the Beatles. We have a string trio that will be playing all of our music, but those are the only two that I have picked out so far.

ETA: Ever since seeing Love Actually I have wanted the Beatles to be my recessional. I am secretly hoping my friends all learned how to play instruments so it can be a surprise like it was for them. lol

@ashleynhobby various selections (although the less popular songs so it's not OMG THIS SONG IS FROM THAT MOVIE) from Harry Potter, LotR, & Chronicles of Narnia, to name a few.
  • We're very traditional and are getting married in a rather formal Presbyterian Church, that dates to 1907. Nothing is really finalized yet, but here are our pretty-close-to-final music choices:

Bridal party processional: Canon in D
    My processional: Trumpet Voluntary

During the service, I hope to have my musician play "One Hand, One Heart" on the harp and sing. And, one of my bridesmaids will also be singing - I think "Your Raise Me Up." I've asked another bridesmaid to sing as well, but don't know if she will or not.

    Recessional:  Recessional by Mendelssohn

  • im think of this to be my intro
  • I have been playing harp in weddings since I was in middle school, so I knew that I didn't want any of the traditional wedding music since I have played them all so often. However, the chapel where we're having our wedding doesn't allow any secular music.

We're using Nimrod from the Enigma Variations for the bridesmaids, I'm processing to I Vow to thee my Country (Jupiter) by Holst, and the recessional is Toccata by Dubois which is just a crazy organ piece. We're also having a vocalist sing the Lord's Prayer during the ceremony accompanied by one of my bridesmaids on harp. I still need to get my mom to choose the song for the mothers to walk down to.

  • This is the list I gave to my DJ and told him to pick what he thought was best:

    Prelude-

A Postcard to Henry Purcell- Pride & Prejudice Soundtrack

A Thousand Years- Christina Perri (Piano/Cello Cover)

Collin Raye- In this life (instrumental version)

                Bach-Cello Suite No.1-Prelude

    Processional:

Bach- Air on the G String

    Pricilla Ahn- Dream

    Walking down the aisle:

Vitamin String Quartet- Just Like Heaven

    Train- Marry Me (Instrumental version)?

Sand Ceremony: Chopin- Cantabile B Flat Major (BI-84)

    Recessional:

                Vitamin String Quartet- Clocks

Vitamin String Quartet- Tribute to U2- With or Without You
