Vow assistance

Hello everyone,

I am getting married on Friday and need some help on my vows. I have let three people read them and everyone says that they sound good. I would LOVE some "outside" help/proofreading :)

Thank you!

Here they are:

Babe, you are my best friend, my better half, my partner in crime and my one and only. There is nowhere else I would want to spend forever with other than with you. I’m so grateful that God has blessed us by being able to share the past 10 years together. I fall more in love with you each day. I look forward to our future, forward to the children that we will have and what an amazing father you will be. I promise to be honest, faithful, to love you in the good times and in bad, and when life seems easy and when it seems hard. I want to spend the rest of my life laughing at your jokes, hearing your thoughts and your dreams. I promise to encourage you and to be your supporter. I promise to be yours forever and always. I love you. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

You didn't really promise a whole lot...

    - To be honest, faithful and to love in the good times and bad
    - Encourage and be his supporter
    - To be his forever

That really isn't much when you take out everything else.

And personally, it drives me nuts when people start their vows with "babe". Your fiancé has a name...call him by it.

  • MLG78, Thank you for your opinions. I agree with you about promising more. I will leave the babe as it fits us but I can see your point.

  • The "babe" made me squirm a little. I'm sorry.

Otherwise I think they're fine and I also think you've promised everything that matters: love, honesty, faithfulness, support.....sounds like you hit all the big ones.
  • Yep. The "babe" thing rubs me wrong too. My partner and I call each other "baby" or "babe" all the time in real life, but I wouldn't have put that in my vows. It just sounds.... juvenile.

I think your vows are generally fine other than that. You may want to read them out loud in front of a mirror.  They are pretty short, which is totally ok, but they will probably be over in about 10 seconds.  Is that enough for you?

  • Ok, maybe I will cut the "babe" as I can understand everyone's point. I am going to make it a bit longer but my fiancé is worried that mine will be long and his wont be. Thank you! Your opinions help a ton!

  • I'd drop the "babe" and the "partner in crime" thing.  That may not be seen as cute or appropriate.

My pastor made a good suggestion when we were meeting with him and I asked about writing our own vows.  He said he only allows you to write your own if you promise the same thing.  Perhaps you could select a handful of things (faithful, honest, etc.) as your core "vows" and then word each of them in your own way. That way they should be approximately the same length.
  • I know this kind of takes away from "writing your own vows" but a friend of mine sat down with her fiance and they wrote them together. It was really cute, different and you could tell they came from the heart from both of them.
  • I took out the babe and added a few more promises. We got married on 6/14 and they turned out great! His were awesome as well. Thanks for everyone's opinions! It helped!

    :D Congrats!

I'm glad to hear you took out "Babe"  As soon as I read that, it changed everything into sounding like the couple from Daria - the football player and the cheerleader (were they Kevin and Britney?).  In my head, that's all I could imagine :)
